The Second Round action continues at the WDF World Championship on Tuesday, with the two tournament favourites topping the bill at Lakeside.
Day Five at the ‘home of world darts’ sees a host of in-form hopefuls bidding to book their place in the latter stages.
Beau Greaves begins her quest for a hat-trick of Women’s World Championship titles with a tie against Finland’s Kirsi Viinikainen in the evening session.
Greaves is unbeaten in ten games at Lakeside and is vying to join Trina Gulliver as the only player to have won three consecutive women’s world titles.
The 20-year-old, who has also claimed back-to-back PDC Women’s World Matchplay titles, opted to defend her Lakeside crown over a place in the PDC World Championship at Ally Pally and starts out as the huge odds-on favourite before a dart has been thrown.
Her first test comes against Czech Open winner Kirsi Viinikainen – who defeated Amanda Loch in straight sets in Round One with a 71.5 average.
The evening session also sees men’s title favourite Jimmy van Schie take to the Lakeside stage for the first time to face Sweden’s Bjorn Lejon.
Second seed Van Schie has racked up eight WDF ranking titles in 2024, including the Czech Open and Swiss Open, and was a quarter-finalist in the World Masters.
Lejon, meanwhile, saw off Hungary’s Patrik Kovács in successive sets at the weekend with an 80 average, and will be eyeing a huge upset here.
Neil Duff, the 2022, WDF World Champion, faces a tricky opener against World Open winner Reece Colley.
Duff saw his title defence ended by Chris Landman in a deciding seventh set in last year’s quarter-finals but has gone on to win the England Open this year and regularly reach the latter stages of World Seniors televised events.
Colley enjoyed a 2-1 win over Darren Johnson in the opening round on Monday but will need to brush up on his doubles if he is to break new ground at Lakeside.
An all-Asian showdown sees Hong Kong’s Kai-Fan Leung take on Singapore legend Paul Lim.
Former PDC Tour Card holder Leung returns as the number seven seed and is out to atone for last year’s exit at this stage of the competition.
Lim, who remains the only player ever to have hit a televised nine-darter at Lakeside 34 years ago, defied a 47-year age gap to thrash Moreno Blom in straight sets on his return to this famous stage on Monday night.
The afternoon session features a clash between Dutch Open champion Jarno Bottenberg and 15th seed Ryan Hogarth.
Bottenberg coasted past Matthew Edgar in successive sets in Round One with an 88.2 average and now faces a player making his third BDO/WDF World Championship appearance.
Swiss star Thomas Junghans, seeded number nine, starts out against debutant James Beeton – who edged out Bradley Kirk in a deciding set in Round One.
Slovenia’s Benjamin Pratnemer, the number eight seed, takes on former PDC Tour Card holder Carl Wilkinson – who dispatched Canada’s Jacob Taylor on debut over the weekend.
In the women’s event, Jitka Cisarova looks to follow up her impressive win over Anca Zijlstra when she meets eighth seed Desi Mercer of New Zealand.
The action gets under way from 1pm GMT, with Men’s Second Round ties to be contested over the best of five sets and Women’s Second Round ties best of three sets.
