Fallon Sherrock has turned down an invitation to compete in the inaugural WDF World Darts Championship at Lakeside.

Sherrock was due to be the number three seed in the women’s event but has opted out of a return to Frimley Green in order to focus on commitments elsewhere.

The WDF World Championship runs from January 1-9 and will incorporate a prize fund of £87,500 for the women’s event, with £25,000 on offer to the winner.

Sherrock, who shot to prominence by reaching the Last 32 of the PDC World Championship two years ago, made the headlines again by reaching the Quarter-Finals of last month’s Grand Slam of Darts.

The 27-year-old also finished top of the PDC Women’s Series Order of Merit to secure a return to Alexandra Palace – where she will face Steve Beaton in Round One.

Having picked up £20,000 in prize money for her run to the Last Eight of the Grand Slam, Sherrock is now officially ranked 94th in the PDC Order of Merit and could earn a Tour Card outright by winning two matches at Ally Pally to enter the world’s top 64.

Should she fail to do that, Sherrock will head to Qualifying School, which begins on January 9 – clashing with the final of the Women’s WDF World Championship.

Sherrock had been given a special exemption to compete in both the WDF and PDC World Championships, while the likes of Jim Williams, Matt Campbell and Chris Landman were forced to choose and each opted to compete at Ally Pally.

The ‘Queen of The Palace’ is yet to win a women’s world title, having lost in the final at Lakeside in 2015, while losing in a further four Quarter-Finals.

The draw for the 2022 WDF World Championship is due to take place from 7pm GMT on Tuesday December 7.

The tournament marks the sport’s televised return to Lakeside for the first time since 2019 -when the BDO hosted its penultimate World Championship before being liquidated the following year.
