The World Series Finals action continues on Saturday with the opening round drawing to a close before the second round commences in Amsterdam.

Night One of the prestigious invitational saw top seed Stephen Bunting among the notable early casualties, with three matches going down to last-leg deciders.

Day Two at the AFAS Live sees the remaining eight first round ties take place in the afternoon session, before the evening session plays host to the eight second round fixtures.

Reigning champion Luke Littler launches the defence of his title with a clash against former European Champion Simon Whitlock.

Littler stormed to glory on his debut here 12 months ago and returns in a blistering vein of form, having claimed the World Matchplay, Australian Masters, New Zealand Masters and Flanders Darts Trophy titles within the last two months.

The reigning World Champion and UK Open champion suffered a Last 16 exit at the hands of Gian van Veen in the Czech Darts Open last weekend and will be keen to resume normal service in the Dutch capital.

Whitlock featured in both Oceanic legs of this year’s World Series, suffering successive first round defeats, and the Aussie icon is bidding to avert a sixth straight first round exit in this competition.

Gerwyn Price, the 2022 World Series Finals champion, opens up with a tie against American ace Danny Lauby.

Price picked up his sixth World Series title at the Poland Masters in July and enjoyed a superb ProTour campaign in midweek, winning Players Championship 26 before finishing runner-up 24 hours later.

Tour Card holder Lauby pulled off a remarkable 6-0 whitewash of Rob Cross at the US Masters in June and will look to take inspiration from that result as he vies to complete another huge upset in front of the TV cameras.

An all-Scottish showdown sees Players Championship event winner Cameron Menzies face two-time World Champion Peter Wright – runner-up in this event back in 2015 and 2016.

Former Masters champion Chris Dobey – who reached his first World Series semi-final this year – starts out against Tour Card Holder qualifier Luke Woodhouse, while former European Champion Ross Smith meets New Zealand’s Jonny Tata.

Former World Matchplay champion Nathan Aspinall faces a tough opener against Dave Chisnall – twice a semi-finalist in this event, while two-time World Series event winner Jonny Clayton opens up against USA hopeful Jason Brandon – who stunned Bunting at the US Masters.

Five-time World Champion Raymond van Barneveld is poised for another hero’s reception on home soil when he steps out to face Norway’s Cor Dekker – who came through last month’s Tour Card holder qualifier to seal a debut in this event.

Among the first four confirmed Last 16 ties includes a clash between five-time World Series Finals champion Michael van Gerwen and 2020 runner-up Rob Cross.

Van Gerwen produced another stellar display in front of his home crowd to edge out compatriot Wessel Nijman in a deciding leg with a 104.7 average on Friday.

Cross, meanwhile, safely saw off New Zealand’s Haupai Puha 6-3 with a 98 average to his opponent’s 99 in another high quality contest.

World number one Luke Humphries resumes his bid for a first World Series Finals crown with a tie against home favourite Kevin Doets.

Humphries picked up from where he left off in winning the Czech Open in Prague last Sunday by edging out James Wade in a decider after surviving two match darts.

Doets, meanwhile, survived four match darts from Jermaine Wattimena before snatching a 6-5 win to reach Round Two for the second successive year.

World Cup of Darts winner Josh Rock, who took out 121 on the bull to seal victory over Krzysztof Ratajski in round one, now faces 2019 finalist Danny Noppert – who toppled top seed Bunting by a 6-4 scoreline.

World Grand Prix champion Mike De Decker, runner-up in last month’s Australian Masters, comes up against Australian number one Damon Heta – who thrashed Joe Cullen 6-1 in his opener.

The action gets under way from 12pm BST, with First Round and Second Round ties to be contested over the best of 11 legs.
