The Second Round action takes centre stage at the Winmau World Masters on Saturday with an unmissable double-header in Milton Keynes.

The opening round of the revamped major ranking event saw ten of the world’s top 24 bow out at the Marshall Arena, including three former World Champions.

Round Two sees an increase in format as a host of big names collide for the right to reach Sunday’s quarter-finals.

The afternoon session sees 2024 PDC Masters champion Stephen Bunting continue his bid for back-to-back titles with a clash against 2020 Masters winner Peter Wright.

Crowd favourite Bunting, who secured his first televised PDC title here 12 months ago and claimed glory at the Bahrain Masters a fortnight ago, battled back from two sets down to deny qualifier Willie Borland on opening night.

Wright, quarter-finalist at the recent World Championship, averaged 101.3 in a superb 3-2 win over Kevin Doets to kick-start his campaign.

Meanwhile, world number one Luke Humphries faces a showdown with world number 16 Josh Rock.

Humphries, who claimed the World Matchplay title and retained the Players Championship Finals crown in 2024, saw his reign as World Champion ended by Wright, and was beaten in the opening round of the Dutch Masters by Jermaine Wattimena, but got off and running here with a 3-1 success over Joe Cullen.

Rock took to the big stage little over 48 hours after tying the knot and enjoyed a winning debut with his new darts as he averaged 98 in a 3-1 win over Wattimena.

World number eight Damon Heta comes up against former World Champion Gerwyn Price in another tasty tussle.

Heta, who landed a nine-darter in defeat to Luke Woodhouse at the World Championship, dispatched Ross Smith 3-1 in Thursday’s opener.

Having finished runner-up in the Bahrain Masters, a fired-up Price continued his impressive start to the season by hammering Florian Hempel in straight sets on opening night.

The opening match of the afternoon sees former UK Open champion Danny Noppert face the man whom he defeated in the semi-finals en route to that title – William O’Connor.

Noppert dumped out 2023 World Champion Michael Smith in Round One, while former World Cup of Darts finalist O’Connor defied a 103 average from Rob Cross to seal a 3-1 success, having come through Wednesday’s Preliminary Rounds.

The evening session features a clash between reigning World Champion Luke Littler and former PDC Masters champion James Wade.

Littler, who made history by becoming the sport’s youngest ever World Champion, is vying to become the first name on the new Winmau World Masters trophy and made the perfect preparation for the start of his Premier League title defence in Belfast on Thursday.

The 18-year-old blitzed past Andy Baetens in straight sets with a 104 average on Friday and now faces one of the sport’s stalwarts – whom he defeated in last year’s UK Open.

Wade, who triumphed at the PDC Masters back in 2014, starts the season inside the world’s top 16 and enjoyed a 3-2 success over World Grand Prix champion Mike De Decker in his opener.

Five-time PDC Masters champion Michael van Gerwen steps up his title pursuit with a tie against UK Open champion Dimitri van den Bergh.

Van Gerwen holds fond memories of this format, having claimed the Winmau World Masters title aged just 17 back in 2006 under the BDO, and the Dutch sensation brushed aside Bradley Brooks in Round One to mark a winning debut outing with his new black shirt.

Belgian number one Van den Bergh set his stall out in style with a 3-1 defeat of Gary Anderson with a 102.4 average and could also return to the world’s top 16 with a win over MVG coupled with defeat for Rock.

In-form Jonny Clayton looks to pick up from where he left off on Friday evening when he faces Ryan Searle.

Clayton, the 2021 PDC Masters champion, set a new personal record televised average of 112.77 in a blistering 3-1 win over Martin Schindler.

Searle, meanwhile, saw off 2023 champion Chris Dobey 3-1 and would secure a place in the elite top 16 if he were to beat Clayton and Rock suffers defeat to Humphries earlier in the day.

Two-time major champion Nathan Aspinall faces enigmatic Scotsman Cameron Menzies in another intriguing contest.

Aspinall shrugged off any injury fears as he thrashed Andrew Gilding in straight sets on Friday with a 103.7 average and a high checkout of 161 in the opening leg.

Grand Slam quarter-finalist Menzies, who came through the Preliminary Rounds earlier in the week, dispatched world number six Dave Chisnall in Round One but will be eyeing a marked improvement on his match average of 87 if he is to progress further.

The action gets under way from 1pm GMT, with Second Round ties to be contested over the best of seven sets, best of three legs per set.
