Dom Taylor is set to return to competitive action after serving a one-month ban for failing a drugs test.

Taylor was suspended from PDC competition last November after returning a positive sample for a banned substance during a Players Championship event.

The 26-year-old consequently missed both the Players Championship Finals and World Championship, losing out on a minimum of £10,500 in prize money.

Taylor’s case was subject to a full hearing before the DRA Disciplinary Committee in December, where he admitted breaching Anti-Doping Rules.

Although he had tested positive in-competition, the committee were satisfied that the ingestion of the prohibited substance took place outside of competition.

UK Anti-Doping Rules state that where in a first offence, the substance of abuse is not performance enhancing, a period of ineligibility shall be two years. Given that the substance was not ‘performance enhancing’, the ineligibility is reduced to three months, and further reduced to one month should the player complete a Substance of Abuse treatment program approved by UKAD.

Taylor has now served his ban and is free to return at the Winmau World Masters, where he will compete in the preliminary round group stage on Wednesday.

A DRA statement read: ‘In the circumstances, the Committee determined that Mr Taylor will be subject to a one-month ban. This is conditional on his completion of an appropriate UKAD approved treatment program. Should Mr Taylor not complete this course within the next four months, then the ban shall be extended by an additional two months. Mr Taylor should also be liable for the costs of these proceedings.’

Taylor, who claimed a PDC Challenge Tour title in 2023, came through Qualifying School in January to secure a two-year Tour Card and reached the quarter-finals of a Players Championship event last season.

The Bristolian starts the 2025 campaign as world number 67, with £39,500 on his Order of Merit tally.
