Andrew Gilding has climbed 16 places to 25th in the PDC Order of Merit following his sensational UK Open triumph in Minehead.

Gilding became the latest new winner of a televised PDC ranking event as he claimed glory in the ‘FA Cup of Darts’ at the Butlins Minehead Resort on Sunday.

The 52-year-old, whose previous best run in a TV major came in the same event in 2015 when he reached the Semi-Finals, defied the odds to deny Michael van Gerwen in a dramatic final.

Gilding recovered from 9-7 down to stun the three-time UK Open champion 11-10 and scoop the record £110,000 top prize.

The victory has catapulted ‘Goldfinger’ up the Order of Merit from 41st to 25th – his highest ranking position for eight years.

At the end of the 2018 season, he had dropped out of the world’s top 64 and lost his Tour Card before regaining it at Qualifying School in 2021 and notably reaching the final of the Belgian Darts Open last year.

Van Gerwen remains the world number three following defeat in a second major final of the year, having also lost out to Michael Smith in January’s World Championship show-piece.

Rob Cross has leapfrogged 2021 UK Open finalist Luke Humphries to become world number five, while 2021 champion James Wade drops five places to 14th – his lowest ranking position since 2006.

Daryl Gurney and Vincent van der Voort have fallen two places to 28th and 32nd respectively, while Simon Whitlock has dropped three places to 40th – his lowest position since joining the PDC in 2009.

Adam Gawlas enjoyed a remarkable run to his first major Semi-Final in Minehead, becoming the first Czech player in PDC history to do so.

The 21-year-old, who defeated the likes of William O’Connor and Rob Cross along the way before losing out to eventual champion Gilding, has subsequently climbed 14 places to a career-high 48th in the Order of Merit.

Richie Burnett’s resurgent run to a first PDC major Quarter-Final since 2014 has seen him rise seven places to 71st as the former Lakeside World Champion bids to retain his Tour Card come the end of the season.

Meanwhile, former European Tour event winner Devon Petersen has dropped four places and out of the top 64, with Canada’s Matt Campbell among those to leapfrog him.
