Gerwyn Price to step into the ring for charity Boxing match
World number one Gerwyn Price will swap arrows for uppercuts as he steps into the ring for a charity boxing match at his local pub in April.
Price, a former professional rugby player, will turn his hand to yet another new sport as he dons the gloves in his home town of Markham.
Price will take on former professional boxer Rhys Evans on Saturday April 9 at the Valley Tavern pub in Fleur-de-Lis and has vowed to lose 10 kilograms in preparation for the fight.
The 36-year-old announced the news on his Instagram story on Thursday ahead of his latest Premier League Darts outing in Belfast.
His opponent, nicknamed ‘Cool Fly & Flashy’, hails from nearby Blackwood and is unbeaten in three previous bouts as a super lightweight, though he has not fought professionally since 2014.
The fight has been billed as the ‘Tearup at the Tav’ and falls on the same day as Players Championship 12 in Barnsley.
Price, who is also facing a fight to retain the world number one spot amid a close challenge from Peter Wright, has reached the final of Players Championship Two and the Semi-Finals of Players Championship Four in recent weeks.
He is due to defend title-winning prize money from two years ago (2020 Belgian Darts Championship – ET1) at the upcoming International Darts Open in Riesa from February 25-27.
