Gerwyn Price reveals he would turn down Premier League Darts spot in 2025

Gerwyn Price has admitted he would likely turn down a place in next year’s Premier League, should he receive an invitation.
Price has endured a below-par season by his standards, failing to win a PDC ranking title and dropping to tenth in the Order of Merit.
The Welshman finished second from bottom in this year’s BetMGM Premier League and failed to qualify for the Grand Slam for the first time in almost a decade.
Price, who has suffered successive First Round exits in the European Championship and Players Championship Finals, has recently dismissed rumours of retirement but has poured cold water on a potential return to the Premier League next season.
Speaking at a MODUS exhibition on Thursday, Price said: “I’ve been absolute rubbish this year.
“I posted on my Instagram about the ‘free year’ I’ve got next year on the one-year Order of Merit and then roll on to the year after.
“It’s been a really tough year for me, especially the Premier League and the way they’ve put the schedule out. You’re going to ProTours, European Tours, straight into another ProTour, so it could be like two weeks where you’re not even going home.
“It has been difficult this year. I’m not sure about the Premier League next year, I don’t even think I’ll accept, whether I get in anyway, I’m not too sure.
“I just want to concentrate on the ranking events and do what means most to me.”
Price has featured in six Premier League campaigns since 2018, reaching the play-offs on just one occasion (2023), when he was beaten in the final.
The 2021 World Champion will return to Ally Pally for his 11th World Championship campaign later this month as he looks to recapture his best form on the sport’s biggest stage.
Price suffered a shock Third Round exit at the hands of Brendan Dolan 12 months ago, having resorted to wearing ear defenders a year ago in an attempt to cancel out the boo boys during his 5-1 defeat to Gabriel Clemens in the quarter-finals.
The 39-year-old, however, insists he has no ‘anxiety’ over competing on the Ally Pally stage.
“I never have anxiety, I just turn up and play and if the crowd are the way they are, I just deal with it,” added Price.
“I’ve dealt with crowds worse than Alexandra Palace over the years.
“The funny thing is, when I was playing really well, everyone’s against you, now I’m playing the worst darts ever, you’ve got all the fans in the world.
“I just think they hate winners, it’s quite sad really.”
