Premier League Darts heads to Cardiff for Night Five on Thursday as the Welsh World Cup duo prepare for a heroes’ homecoming.

A captivating start to the campaign has seen four different winners across the opening four nights, as well as the first nine-darter of this year’s tournament last time out.

A sold-out Cardiff International Arena prepares to welcome the elite eight this week, headlined by two-time World Cup of Darts winning duo Jonny Clayton and Gerwyn Price.

Clayton, the 2021 Premier League champion, leads the way at the top of the table on 11 points, having won Night Three in Glasgow and reached a further three semi-finals.

Clayton, who boasts a tournament checkout success rate of 49%, comes up against European Champion Gian van Veen in a repeat of the Glasgow final a fortnight ago.

Clayton stormed to a 6-2 victory with a 104.3 average on that occasion – marking the second of Van Veen’s three weekly final defeats so far.

The World Championship runner-up was also forced to settle for second spot on opening night in Newcastle and last week in Belfast but has the opportunity to leapfrog Clayton into top spot.

The Dutchman will be determined to secure his first weekly title of his debut campaign and end his run of defeats in finals, having also finished runner-up in the recent Poland Darts Open.

Price, meanwhile, looks to utilise home advantage when he faces last week’s winner Stephen Bunting.

Former Premier League finalist Price occupies fourth spot with seven points, having triumphed on Night Two in Antwerp and reached the semi-finals in Belfast.

Price, who claimed the title in Cardiff in 2023 and was runner-up in 2024, looks to halt the momentum of Bunting – who registered his first points of the season in dream style last week.

Having suffered three straight defeats to start the campaign, ‘The Bullet’ produced back-to-back 106 averages in defeating Luke Humphries 6-4 and whitewashing Clayton 6-0, before brushing aside Van Veen 6-2 in the final.

Reigning Premier League champion Humphries faces a quarter-final showdown with seven-time Premier League champion Michael van Gerwen.

Humphries is languishing in sixth spot after just two wins from his opening six games, though his tournament average of 103.2 is the highest of the field.

The world number two, who claimed three weekly titles en route to glory last year, looks to avenge his 6-2 defeat to MVG in the Night One semi-finals.

Van Gerwen took the spoils on opening night in Newcastle but has won just one match since, having withdrawn from the trip to Glasgow through illness, before being edged out in a deciding leg by Price in Belfast from 5-3 in front.

Reigning World Champion Luke Littler also bids to get his campaign off and running against another early struggler in Josh Rock.

The duo currently occupy the bottom two positions in the league table, having mustered just one win between them so far.

Littler has four points after receiving a bye against Van Gerwen in Glasgow, with his only win coming against Humphries in Antwerp.

The world number one has suffered back-to-back defeats to Clayton and will be determined to brush up on his tournament checkout rate of 30 per cent.

Debutant Rock has remarkably suffered four consecutive 6-2 defeats and has a tournament average of just 91.6, but made the headlines during his homecoming in Belfast last week by landing an astonishing nine-darter in defeat to Van Veen.

The action gets under way from 7pm GMT, with all matches to be contested over the best of 11 legs.
