The Premier League Darts roadshow visits Manchester on Thursday as the play-off race continues at the AO Arena.

Just three league nights remain before the top four in the league table will head to London’s O2 Arena to compete for the sport’s most prestigious invitational title.

Whilst the top two are all but assured of a place in the play-offs, it remains all to play for amongst the chasing pack, with six of the field having picked up at least one weekly title.

The top two in the league table go head-to-head in the pick of the night’s Quarter-Final ties as Gerwyn Price faces Michael van Gerwen.

Price has assumed control of top spot after leapfrogging MVG on Night 12 and is four points clear going in to their sixth meeting of this year’s competition.

The Welshman will be heading to Finals Night for the first time in what is his fifth Premier League campaign and will be determined to do so as the winner of the league phase.

Price has finished runner-up in successive weeks, having picked up four weekly titles so far, and has not suffered a Quarter-Final defeat since Night Six in Liverpool.

Van Gerwen, meanwhile, heads to Manchester on the back of successive Quarter-Final losses, with the most recent of his three weekly titles so far having come on Night Six.

The reigning champion has lost three of his five meetings with Price in this year’s Premier League, including an epic battle in Brighton three weeks ago which featured 14 maximums and both players averaging in excess of 104.

A crucial clash in the race for the play-offs sees local stars Michael Smith and Nathan Aspinall face off.

The pair met in the final of the German Darts Grand Prix in Munich three weeks ago, with Smith claiming the title courtesy of an 8-5 triumph.

Both head in to the night inside the top four, with Smith occupying third spot after picking up his second weekly title of the campaign in Leeds last week.

Reigning World Champion Smith is vying to reach Finals Night for the first time since 2018 – when he finished runner-up – and he has held down a top four spot in all but one night since the second week of action.

Aspinall sits in fourth position, four points clear of nearest challenger Jonny Clayton and reached the Semi-Finals last week following on from his Night 12 title in Rotterdam.

The Asp, who hails from nearby Stockport, will be guaranteed a rapturous reception on home soil as he looks to keep his play-off destiny in his own hands.

2021 champion Clayton looks to maintain the pressure on the top four by overcoming rock bottom Peter Wright in the opening match of the evening.

The pair met in the final of Night Ten in Birmingham – where Clayton came out on top 6-5 to make it back-to-back weekly titles.

Since then, ‘The Ferret’ has registered just one win in his last three outings and knows a further Quarter-Final exit would deal a major blow to his hopes of reaching the play-offs for the third consecutive season.

Wright has been rooted to the foot of the table since Night Two, but seven points from the last four weeks have seen him close the gap to just one point on Chris Dobey in seventh spot.

The two-time World Champion was a quarter-finalist in the weekend’s Dutch Darts Championship, averaging 102.7 in defeating Michael Smith along the way, and will be determined to transfer that form into the remaining weeks of the Premier League.

Dobey faces a potentially make-or-break clash with Dimitri van den Bergh as the duo bid to keep their fading play-off hopes alive.

Masters champion Dobey has gone five weeks without a win, despite posting ton-plus averages in three of those defeats.

Van den Bergh has claimed only two points during the same period, although he won the pair’s only other Premier League meeting on Night Four, which saw both players average over 104.

The Belgian sits on 11 points to Dobey’s ten, and defeat for either would all but end their chances of reaching Finals Night.

Night 14 of 2023 Premier League Darts gets under way in Manchester from 7pm BST, with all matches to be contested over the best of 11 legs.
