Menzies thumps the table in frustration

Cameron Menzies took his frustration out on the drinks table with a series of punches following his first round exit to Charlie Manby at the World Darts Championship on Monday.

Menzies was beaten in a deciding set by 20-year-old debutant Manby – who twice came from a set down to snatch victory at Alexandra Palace.

Menzies struggled to contain his emotions at the end of the contest, repeatedly punching the underside of the drinks table in rage before referee Kirk Bevins stepped in to direct the Scotsman off stage.

The enigmatic 36-year-old was seen with bloody hands following the incident and is likely to face sanctions from the sport’s governing body.

The moment was widely shared across social media and prompted commentary from fans and pundits alike, with former Lakeside Champion Glen Durrant believing Menzies will “regret” his actions.

Menzies made a blistering start to the contest, firing in five 180s on his way to sealing the first set in a decider despite missing 12 darts at doubles.

Manby unleashed a huge celebration as he seals the second set in a deciding leg to get back on level terms, before Menzies took the third to regain the upper-hand.

Yorkshire’s Manby converted double 16 with his first dart to seal the fourth set in a decider and send it all the way, landing a crucial 120 checkout to break throw before eventually sealing victory on double one.

He will now face either Canada’s Matt Campbell or Adam Sevada of the USA in the second round.
