Gerwyn Price blasts “amateur conditions” after forfeiting Players Championship match

Gerwyn Price slammed playing conditions as “absolutely pathetic” after withdrawing midway through the opening Players Championship event of the year.
Price remarkably forfeited his Last 32 tie against Brendan Dolan in Wigan on Monday whilst trailing 4-2.
Live Darts understands the world number five, who was beaten by Dolan in the recent World Championship, walked out due to the cold temperature inside the Robin Park Sports Centre.
He took to Instagram soon after, posting: ‘Absolutely pathetic conditions.
‘Travel all the way to Wigan to play in a professional game and we have to play in less than amateur conditions.
‘Never have I ever given a game up. Well that’s me out of tomorrow as well.
‘Gutted because my game was really good today and I rely on these events so much.’
Price had averaged 110.7 in a 6-2 victory over Matthew Dennant in the previous round and had opened up with a 101.5 average in a 6-5 win over Karel Sedlacek.
The Welshman looks set to opt out of Tuesday’s Players Championship event in order to turn his attention towards Thursday’s Premier League night in Glasgow.
After finishing runner-up on the opening night in Cardiff, Price was beaten 6-5 by Michael Smith in Berlin last week, having withdrawn from The Masters the previous weekend for ‘family reasons’.
