Daryl Gurney blasts Players Championship conditions in Rosmalen
Daryl Gurney has slammed the playing conditions on the ProTour in Rosmalen, insisting the players “deserve better”.
The Northern Irishman has taken to social media to express his frustration over the cold temperature inside the venue, as well as the location.
Gurney defeated Bradley Brooks 6-3 in the opening round of Monday’s Players Championship event, before averaging just 81 in a 6-3 defeat to George Killington in Round Two.
The world number 25 posted on Facebook: ‘Really disappointed with the playing conditions today in Rosmalen. The venue is freezing, and no consideration of the location for players. A bad decision on the PDC’s behalf and the players deserve better!’
Gurney was not alone in criticising the playing conditions, with Grand Slam semi-finalist Mickey Mansell posting: ‘As professional players we shouldn’t be concerned about playing conditions, unfortunately last weekend in Wigan and now in this week in Rosmalen isn’t good enough. Same sh*te, PDPA say it’s PDC’s responsibility PDC says it’s the venue’s responsibility!’
New Tour Card holder Justin Hood added: ‘I’m not one to complain about venues or line-ups, but wow.’
The Players Championship double-header is being held at the Autotron in Rosmalen, which hosted last year’s Dutch Darts Championship.
Chris Dobey claimed the Players Championship 3 title courtesy of an 8-4 victory over Jelle Klaasen in the final.
The tournament saw Michael van Gerwen suffer a shock First Round exit on home soil at the hands of Ireland’s Michael Flynn despite a 97 average.
Seven players averaged below 80 in the opening round, including Robert Owen and Niels Zonneveld, who both won their respective matches.
The 128-player field returns to action at the Autotron on Tuesday for Players Championship 4, with a £125,000 prize fund on offer.
