Michael van Gerwen has extended his lead at the top of the PDC Order of Merit after claiming his third UK Open title, while Gary Anderson has slipped to eighth.

Van Gerwen claimed his first ranking title of 2020 in style in Minehead on Sunday as he landed a nine-darter en route to Ladbrokes UK Open glory.

The world number one had gone more than 100 days without winning a PDC tournament but opened his account for the new season superbly by coming from 5-1 down to defeat Gerwyn Price 11-9 in the final.

Van Gerwen was beaten in the Third Round of the tournament in 2018, with his 2020 triumph adding just under £100,000 to his PDC order of merit tally to move £720,000 clear of Peter Wright in second.

Gerwyn Price’s £40,000 runner-up prize sees him extend his cushion over Rob Cross as world number three, while Daryl Gurney has moved up to sixth following his run to the Semi-Finals.

Gary Anderson’s failure to defend his title winning prize money from two years ago has seen him drop to eighth position, with World Matchplay winning and Grand Slam runner-up prize money still to defend this season.

Jonny Clayton, who produced a magnificent nine-dart finish on his way to reaching the Semi-Finals, has regained a place in the top 16 at the expense of Stephen Bunting.

Jelle Klaasen ended a four-year wait for a major Quarter-Final appearance and has subsequently climbed one place to 48th.

Kyle Anderson has dropped three places to 45th, while former World Championship semi-finalist Jamie Lewis falls to 60th and faces a battle to save his Tour Card at the end of the season.

Jamie Hughes, who reached his first PDC major Quarter-Final in Minehead, is up two places to 42nd, while Germany’s Martin Schindler also climbs two places to 51st.

Dirk van Duijvenbode’s superb start to the campaign after regaining a Tour Card via Qualifying School has seen him pick up £16,000 in prize money to occupy 77th position.
