Live Darts on Thursday | Grand Slam of Darts 2025 Day Six Preview and Order of Play
The Second Round action continues at the Grand Slam of Darts in Wolverhampton on Thursday as a host of in-form stars collide.
Luke Humphries, Gerwyn Price, Michael Smith and Ricky Evans have already booked their place in the quarter-finals, now focus shifts to the bottom half of the draw bracket.
Reigning champion Luke Littler is bidding to become only the fourth player to retain this title since 2007 and puts his unbeaten record on the line when he faces Wessel Nijman.
Littler has extended his perfect record to ten consecutive wins at the Grand Slam after storming to the top of Group E with maximum points, dropping just five legs in the process.
Anything other than a Luke Humphries triumph this weekend would see Littler become world number one for the first time, but he now faces an opponent against whom he holds an inferior head-to-head record.
Nijman has won six of their previous nine meetings in all competitions, though none of those have come on a major televised stage.
The three-time Players Championship event winner progressed from Group F in second spot courtesy of wins over Josh Rock and Lisa Ashton, finishing ahead of Gian van Veen on legs difference after whitewashing Ashton 5-0 in his final fixture.
The 25-year-old is vying to reach his first major ranking quarter-final and has provisionally entered the world’s top 32 for the first time.
Meanwhile, three-time Grand Slam champion Michael van Gerwen faces a showdown with Dutch compatriot Danny Noppert.
Van Gerwen atoned for last year’s shock group stage exit by finishing top of Group G courtesy of his 5-2 win over Gary Anderson in their straight shootout with a 108.5 average.
The World Series Finals champion has won 12 of his previous 18 meetings with Noppert and is eyeing only a second major ranking quarter-final of the season following on from his semi-final run in last month’s European Championship.
Noppert has reached the knockout phase for the fourth consecutive year after coming through the Tour Card holder qualifier, but was forced to settle for second spot in Group H after slipping to a 5-4 defeat to Jonny Clayton despite averaging 107.
The former UK Open champion has enjoyed a superb season on the big stage, reaching a trio of major semi-finals at the World Masters, World Grand Prix and European Championship.
World Cup of Darts winner Josh Rock looks to progress to a third televised ranking quarter-final of the year when he meets Connor Scutt.
Semi-finalist at the UK Open and World Matchplay, Rock put his recent dip in form behind him by topping Group F with commanding wins over Ashton and Van Veen.
The Northern Irishman is now ranked in the world’s top ten and will look to press home his trademark scoring power over the extended format.
World number 52 Scutt finished runner-up to Littler in Group E after defeating Karel Sedlacek 5-3 in their decisive fixture and is now vying to reach his second major quarter-final to follow on from the Players Championship Finals 12 months ago.
The evening’s action commences with an all-German affair between Grand Slam debutants Niko Springer and Lukas Wenig.
Having finished runner-up in the Dutch Darts Championship in May, Springer went one better to claim his first European Tour title at the Hungarian Darts Trophy in September.
The 25-year-old enjoyed wins over Anderson and Van Gerwen to come through the ‘Group of Death’ despite suffering defeat to Beau Greaves in his final fixture.
Tour Card holder qualifier Wenig is the lowest ranked player (71st) left standing in the competition after defying the odds to defeat Jonny Clayton and Cam Crabtree and secure the £3,500 group winner’s bonus in Group H.
The action gets under way from 7pm GMT, with second round ties to be contested over the best of 19 legs.
