Luke Littler stormed to his third title in the space of seven days as he successfully retained the Belgian Darts Open crown in Wieze with an 8-5 win over Mike De Decker in the final.

Having claimed UK Open glory last Sunday before prevailing on Night Five of Premier League Darts on Thursday, Littler continued his emphatic winning run to cap off a memorable week of success.

The 18-year-old extended his unbeaten run to 14 matches by denying home hero De Decker in the final at the Oktoberhallen to seal the £30,000 top prize.

Littler began the day by reeling off three straight legs from 4-3 down to defeat Luke Woodhouse in the Last 16 with a 101.8 average, before dispatching Dave Chisnall by the same 6-4 scoreline in the quarter-finals with the aid of a 170 checkout.

The reigning World Champion then rattled off seven of the last eight legs to thrash James Wade 7-3 in a repeat of last Sunday’s UK Open final, averaging 103.5 with seven 180s to his name.

Littler opened up a 3-1 lead in the final before De Decker rallied with an 84 checkout on the bull to break throw in leg five.

The breaks of throw continued as Littler hit back before De Decker took out 116 to trail 4-3, but the world number two replied with three consecutive legs to strengthen his grip on the tie.

De Decker refused to go down without a fight and responded with successive legs of his own to reduce the deficit to 7-5, but Littler made no mistake in sealing the deal in leg 13, capturing his third European Tour title inside 12 months.

“I’m very happy to retain this title in front of these amazing fans,” said Littler.

“Mike was very strong on his throw but I managed to get the lead and then see it out.

“I said at the start of the year if I don’t win anything all year, I’m still a World Champion.

“I’m happy to win the UK Open and come back here and go back-to-back; now it’s straight onto the Players Championship events and then back to the Premier League.”

De Decker enjoyed a run to his first European Tour final, kicking off the final day of action with a 102.8 average in seeing off Martin Schindler 6-3.

The World Grand Prix champion then overcame in-form Gerwyn Price 6-4 in the quarter-finals and produced a memorable fightback to deny Ross Smith in the semi-finals courtesy of a 78 finish in the deciding leg.

“This crowd has been amazing, everyone wants to play in Belgium and they proved it again this weekend,” said De Decker.

“I’m a little bit sad that the final didn’t go my way but Luke is a phenomenal player; what he’s doing in the sport is incredible.

“It’s a runner-up trophy this time but it’s another final so I’m on the right path.”

UK Open runner-up Wade continued his impressive recent run of form by defeating Croatia’s Boris Krcmar and Winmau World Masters finalist Jonny Clayton 6-4 en route to the semis.

Smith saw off Canada’s Matt Campbell 6-4 in the afternoon’s Third Round, before edging out Stephen Bunting thanks to a 117 checkout in the deciding leg, though he was to be narrowly denied by home favourite De Decker in a decider.
