Hungarian Darts Trophy 2025 | Day Two Preview and Order of Play
The seeded players begin their Hungarian Darts Trophy campaigns on Saturday as the Second Round action takes place in Budapest.
Day One of the season’s 11th European Tour event saw a host of in-form stars crash out, including Dutch trio Gian van Veen, Dirk van Duijvenbode and Wessel Nijman.
Fourteen of the world’s top 16 players are in action this weekend, including reigning World Champion Luke Littler – who begins his bid for a third European Tour title of the season with a clash against former Masters champion Joe Cullen.
Littler, whose brace of Euro Tour titles this year have each come in Belgium, finished runner-up in last week’s World Series Finals, while recent ProTour event winner Cullen got his campaign under way with a narrow 6-5 win over Lukas Wenig on Friday.
Michael van Gerwen launches the defence of his title with a tie against world number 75 Matthew Dennant.
Van Gerwen ended a two-year wait for major silverware by landing his sixth World Series Finals title on home soil in Amsterdam last Sunday, and now turns his attention towards challenging for a record-extending 39th Euro Tour title.
Dennant, meanwhile, recovered from 2-0 down to defeat Andrew Gilding 6-4 in his opener on Friday afternoon.
World number one Luke Humphries is looking to make it back-to-back European Tour titles following his Czech Open triumph a fortnight ago, and he starts out against fellow Premier League star Nathan Aspinall.
Seventh seed Gerwyn Price, who claimed the inaugural Hungarian Trophy title in 2021, opens up against Dutch hopeful Richard Veenstra.
The evening session also sees world number four Stephen Bunting, International Open winner back in April, face French number one Thibault Tricole.
Australian number one Damon Heta faces a tough opener against emerging German star Niko Springer – who defied a 106 average from Gian van Veen in their first round tie to prevail 6-3.
Josh Rock is aiming to go one better following successive defeats in European Tour finals, and he starts out against Ricardo Pietreczko – who is chasing down a place in next month’s World Grand Prix.
Mike De Decker, the reigning World Grand Prix champion, takes on Tom Bissell – the lowest ranked player left standing in the event after pulling of an impressive scalp of Van Duijvenbode in round one.
The afternoon session includes a clash between eight-time European Tour event winner Dave Chisnall and five-time World Champion Raymond van Barneveld – who sits just one place outside of the provisional World Grand Prix spots.
Nine-time European Tour event winner Peter Wright faces two-time European Tour event winner Kim Huybrechts, while former European Champion Ross Smith meets the enigmatic Cameron Menzies.
World Matchplay and UK Open finalist James Wade looks to mount a run to a fourth consecutive European Tour semi-final and starts out against European Championship semi-finalist Luke Woodhouse.
Rob Cross, who currently sits outside of the provisional European Championship qualification places, aims to improve on his below-par Euro Tour form this year when he faces two-time major winner Daryl Gurney.
Darren Beveridge’s reward for his first round scalp of Nijman is a tie against Premier League and World Series star Chris Dobey, while Rob Owen bids to back up his first round win over Ryan Searle when he meets 14th seed Danny Noppert.
German number one Martin Schindler, a three-time European Tour winner, takes on World Grand Prix semi-finalist Ryan Joyce in the opening match of the afternoon.
The action gets under way from 12pm BST, with Second Round ties to be contested over the best of 11 legs.
