Czech Darts Open 2022 | Day Two Preview and Order of Play
The top 16 seeds commence their Czech Darts Open campaigns in Prague on Saturday as the Second Round action takes centre stage.
The sixth European Tour event of the season features 48 players battling it out for £140,000 in prize money, with 16 qualifiers having progressed through Friday’s opening round to set up a meeting with one of the 16 seeded stars.
The pick of the day’s ties features a clash between two former World Champions with a history of feisty encounters as Gerwyn Price takes on Adrian Lewis.
Price comes into the event as the number one seed and riding high after winning Thursday’s Premier League Night 14 in Sheffield to bolster his play-off hopes.
International Open champion in February, Price faces a tough opener against two-time World Champion Lewis – who came through the qualifiers and saw off Ted Evetts in Friday’s opening round.
The evening session also sees Michael van Gerwen launch his quest for a third consecutive Euro Tour title and a fourth of the season when he faces Host Nation qualifier Vítězslav Sedlák.
Van Gerwen has stormed to Austrian Open and European Open glory in successive weekends and will be eyeing a routine win over the Czech underdog – who averaged 82 in a 6-4 win over Welshman Jon Worsley on his debut.
Premier League champion Jonny Clayton, whose sole Euro Tour triumph to date came back in 2018, starts out against Spain’s Jose Justicia.
Masters Champion Joe Cullen looks to play himself back into form when he meets former ProTour event winner Ross Smith, while eighth seed Damon Heta aims to spoil the party in Prague by ending the hopes of Czech number one Adam Gawlas.
Dirk van Duijvenbode is another player hoping to silence the partisan home crowd when he comes up against Czech number two Karel Sedlacek – who dispatched German star Gabriel Clemens in Round One.
Martin Schindler, arguably the most dangerous German darter on planet darts at present, comes into the event as the number 16 seed and faces former UK Open finalist Vincent van der Voort.
Ryan Searle, quarter-finalist in Leverkusen last weekend, faces three-time Challenge Tour event winner Ritchie Edhouse.
The afternoon session features a mouth-watering tie between two former major champions as Dimitri Van den Bergh meets Nathan Aspinall.
Michael Smith, winner of back-to-back ProTour events in midweek, looks to continue his red hot run of form when he takes on 2021 World Cup of Darts finalist Rowby-John Rodriguez.
Two players with experience of winning Euro Tour titles go head-to-head as Daryl Gurney takes on Dave Chisnall – who began with a 6-0 whitewash on Friday.
Ricky Evans’ reward for his impressive win over in-form Josh Rock is a show-down with former Gibraltar Trophy winner Krzysztof Ratajski, while Brendan Dolan and Mickey Mansell collide in an all-Northern Irish encounter.
European Champion Rob Cross, who remains yet to win a Euro Tour event, opens up with a tie against America’s Jules van Dongen – who marked his debut by defeating Brett Claydon 6-2.
A repeat of last month’s German Darts Grand Prix final sees Luke Humphries looking to do the double over Martin Lukeman, having stormed to the title with an 8-2 success in Munich on that occasion.
Jose de Sousa, the number three seed, continues his quest to recapture his top form when he meets Dutch ace Martijn Kleermaker – who overcame UK Open quarter-finalist Sebastian Białecki in Friday’s opener.
The action gets under way from 12pm BST, with Second Round matches to be contested over the best of 11 legs.
