The 2022 Dutch Darts Masters gets under way in Amsterdam on Friday as eight PDC seeds take on eight Dutch Tour Card holders in Round One.

This will be the first time the Dutch Masters has been held as part of the World Series, as a clutch of the sport’s top stars compete for the £20,000 top prize.

Premier League champion Michael van Gerwen makes a swift return to action less than two weeks after undergoing surgery for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in his throwing arm.

The world number three starts his quest for a seventh PDC title of the year and a 17th World Series title in total with a clash against UK Open champion Danny Noppert in one of the stand-out ties of the opening night.

The match signals a repeat of last month’s Austrian Open final, in which Van Gerwen triumphed 8-5, avenging his defeats to Noppert in the International Open and World Grand Prix.

Noppert is enjoying a career-high ranking of 11 and partnered Dirk van Duijvenbode to the Semi-Finals of the World Cup last weekend in the absence of MVG.

Van Duijvenbode also lines up as one of the eight Dutch invitees and has been drawn to face world number one and reigning World Champion Peter Wright.

Van Duijvenbode was one of the stand-out performers at the recent World Cup of Darts, averaging 110.6 in a 4-1 win over Steve Lennon, whilst also producing a stunning 153 checkout on his way to defeating Brendan Dolan.

Wright, meanwhile, has struggled for consistency in recent months, missing out on the Premier League play-offs before seeing his World Cup title defence alongside John Henderson end at the Quarter-Final stage.

Three times a World Series event winner, ‘Snakebite’ was beaten in the Semi-Finals of this year’s US Masters and Quarter-Finals of the Nordic Masters.

Michael Smith comes into the event as the top seed courtesy of his US Masters triumph and subsequent Semi-Final run in Copenhagen, and ‘Bully Boy’ begins his latest campaign against Martijn Kleermaker.

Kleermaker, 31, defeated Simon Whitlock and Joe Cullen en route to the Last 16 of last year’s World Championship and is making his World Series debut.

World number two Gerwyn Price, former World Series Finals winner, starts out against crowd favourite Vincent van der Voort – the world number 28.

Price partnered Jonny Clayton to the final of the World Cup last Sunday, with the Welsh duo denied a second title by Australia’s Damon Heta and Simon Whitlock.

Women’s Series star Fallon Sherrock eyes her second World Series win of the campaign when she takes on world number 52 Maik Kuivenhoven – who has beaten the likes of Price, Van Gerwen, Wright and Wade during his time on the tour.

Nordic Masters champion Dimitri Van den Bergh launches his quest for back-to-back World Series titles with a tie against Dutch left-hander Ron Meulenkamp.

Former Premier League champion Jonny Clayton opens up the evening’s action against former World Grand Prix quarter-finalist Jermaine Wattimena, while world number five James Wade takes on former World Matchplay semi-finalist Jeffrey de Zwaan.

The action gets under way from 6pm BST, with First Round matches to be contested over the best of 11 legs.
