Sherrock has become a household name in recent years following her historic exploits at the 2019/20 PDC World Championship – where she became the first female to beat a man in the competition and went on to reach the Last 32.

The 29-year-old has gone on to reach the Grand Slam of Darts Quarter-Finals and the final of the Nordic Masters, while also picking up an abundance of PDC Women’s Series and WDF titles.

Breakthrough

Sherrock began playing county darts at youth level aged 17 and represented England Youth team in the girls’ singles division at the 2011 WDF Europe Cup Youth tournament.

Her first singles title of note was the 2012 Girls World Masters, before backing it up with victory in the Women’s British Classic the following year.

After finishing her A-levels, she opted against studying forensic science at university in order to focus on pursuing a career in professional darts.

Women’s World Championship debut

Sherrock made her first appearance in the BDO World Championship at Lakeside in 2014, beating Rilana Erades in straight sets before losing out to reigning champion Anastasia Dobromyslova in the Quarter-Finals.

The following year, Sherrock went on to reach the final, gaining revenge on Dobromyslova in the Semi-Finals before being denied glory by Lisa Ashton, despite landing six 180s in a high quality contest.

That remains Sherrock’s only appearance in a World Final to date, with a shock First Round exit coming in 2016 followed by three consecutive Quarter-Final defeats.

PDC debut

A significant change to the PDC World Championship field in 2018 saw the introduction of two female qualifiers from a women’s qualifying event.

Though Sherrock missed out that year, she secured a debut appearance at Ally Pally in 2019 and went on to make global headlines with a career-defining run to the Third Round.

She firstly overcame Ted Evetts 3-2 in Round One, before pulling off a sensational 3-1 scalp of world number 11 Mensur Suljovic in Round Two.

Her ground-breaking run was eventually brought to an end by Chris Dobey – who clinched a 4-2 victory in the Last 32, though Sherrock’s exploits had captured the attention of news outlets worldwide and elevated her into the limelight.

Recent Career

Sherrock withdrew from the 2020 BDO Women’s World Championship due to ‘unexpected changes’ to the event, instead opting to compete in a German ProSieben’s pro-am doubles event alongside former Italy striker and World Cup winner Luca Toni.

Though she was unable to secure a Tour Card at PDC Qualifying School that year, Sherrock competed in the UK Open and was a ‘Challenger’ in the Premier League – where she held eventual champion Glen Durrant to a 6-6 draw in Nottingham.

After failing to qualify for the World Championship that year and missing out at Q School again, Sherrock’s next key moment came in the 2021 Nordic Masters in Copenhagen, recovering from 9-3 down to defeat Dimitri van den Bergh 11-10 before being narrowly denied by Michael van Gerwen in the final.

That run saw Sherrock become the only woman in the history of the PDC to have reached the final of a televised tournament.

Following the introduction of the PDC Women’s Series in late 2021, Sherrock stormed to six titles and secured a return to Alexandra Palace, as well as a debut in the Grand Slam of Darts.

At the Grand Slam, she set a new record for the highest televised average by a woman (101.55) in a 5-0 whitewash of Mike de Decker en route to reaching the knockout stage – where she defeated Suljović in the Last 16, before losing to Peter Wright in the Quarter-Finals.

There was to be no repeat of her Ally Pally heroics the second time around, with Steve Beaton sealing a 3-2 victory in Round One.

In 2022, Sherrock became the inaugural Women’s World Matchplay champion courtesy of a 6-3 victory over Aileen De Graaf in the final at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool.

Her third PDC World Championship appearance resulted in a 3-1 defeat to Ricky Evans in Round One and Jermaine Wattimena proved to be her nemesis by the same scoreline in the First Round in the 2023/24 event.

In 2023, during a 5-3 win over Marco Verhofstad on the Challenge Tour, Sherrock became the first woman to hit a nine dart finish in a PDC event and also registered a 107 average during a PDC Women’s Series event, setting a new record.

In August 2023, Sherrock made history again by landing a televised nine-darter against Adam Lipscombe in the Modus Super Series, becoming the first ever woman to hit a televised nine-dart finish.

Controversies

Sherrock has faced hateful comments online after a number of her matches, but has admitted she uses them as motivation to prove the doubters wrong: “If I’m feeling a bit slouchy, I’ll look at some of the comments and I’ll be like: ‘OK, now I need to prove you wrong.”

Her selection for all World Series events in 2022 has also been criticised due to the fact she is a non Tour Card holder, while pundits and players clashed with their opinions over the speculation that she would be included in the 2022 Premier League.
