Premier League Darts returns to Rotterdam for Night 11 on Thursday as the play-off race prepares for more twists and turns.

Six nights of league action remain before the top four players in the table progress to The O2 to compete for the sport’s most prestigious invitational title.

A four-point gap has now opened up between fourth and fifth positions, meaning this week’s trip to the Rotterdam Ahoy could go some way towards determining who makes it to finals night.

Two Dutchmen prepare to step out in front of a sell-out crowd on home soil and are poised for a rapturous reception as a sea of orange awaits.

Gian van Veen, who previously attended Premier League nights in Rotterdam as a fan, realises his darting dream as he takes to the stage to face defending champion Luke Humphries.

Reigning European Champion Van Veen leads the chasing pack in the race for the play-offs, four points adrift of compatriot Michael van Gerwen in fourth spot.

Van Veen has lost in four weekly finals in his debut campaign so far and was forced to withdraw from Night Seven through illness, but now faces an opponent in desperate need of a nightly title in order to get his play-off hopes back on track.

Unthinkably, Humphries finds himself second from bottom in the table and is facing arguably a win or bust scenario in Rotterdam, five points adrift of the play-off spots following a run of three consecutive Premier League defeats.

The world number two struggled for form on the ProTour in midweek with successive early exits but continues to boast a ton-plus average for the tournament, however crucial missed doubles have proved to be his Achilles heel so far.

Seven-time champion Van Gerwen is without a win in Rotterdam since 2022 and will be determined to stop the rot when he faces league leader Jonny Clayton.

Van Gerwen averaged just 89 in a 6-5 defeat to Stephen Bunting here last year, going on to miss out on the play-offs, but a run to a fourth weekly final of the season last time out has seen him strengthen his grip on a play-off place this term.

Clayton is bidding to make it a hat-trick of Premier League wins over MVG this season, having picked up his third weekly title of the campaign in Brighton last week to regain top spot.

The 2021 champion will be all but assured of a play-off place if he can spoil the party and add to his 24-point tally in the Netherlands.

Meanwhile, 2024 champion Luke Littler looks to avert a third consecutive quarter-final exit when he comes up against Gerwyn Price.

Littler was on the wrong end of a 6-5 defeat to Van Veen in a fiery encounter in Manchester a fortnight ago and felt the backlash from the crowd in Brighton last time out, registering his lowest televised average (83.94) to date in losing 6-4 to Bunting.

The world number one finds himself three points adrift of top spot but odds-on to secure a play-off place, and will be determined to get back to winning ways in Rotterdam.

Price has picked up two nightly titles this season and is holding down third spot with 19 points, though he suffered only his fourth quarter-final loss of the season a week ago.

The Welshman is out to snap a streak of six consecutive defeats at the hands of Littler, including four in this year’s Premier League.

Elsewhere, debutant Josh Rock aims to build on his encouraging recent run of form when he faces Bunting.

Rock started the season with seven consecutive defeats but has registered quarter-final wins in each of his last three outings, though he remains five points adrift at the foot of the table.

Bunting climbed into sixth spot for the first time this season courtesy of his win over an out of sorts Littler last week, and ‘The Bullet’ will remain quietly optimistic of challenging for a play-off spot if he can reach a third consecutive semi-final here.

The action gets under way from 6pm BST (7pm local time), with all matches to be contested over the best of 11 legs.
