Swiss Darts Trophy 2025 | Day Two Preview and Order of Play
The seeded stars begin their Swiss Darts Trophy campaigns on Saturday as the Second Round action takes place in Basel.
Day One of the season’s penultimate European Tour event saw the likes of Wessel Nijman, Daryl Gurney and last week’s Hungarian Darts Trophy champion Niko Springer suffer early exits.
The race to reach the World Grand Prix takes another twist with three places still up for grabs in the prestigious double-start major.
Daryl Gurney, Andrew Gilding and Krzysztof Ratajski currently occupy the final three ProTour qualification spots, though only Ratajski remains in the Swiss Darts Trophy.
The Polish number one looks to follow up Friday’s 6-0 whitewash of Owen Bates when he takes on reigning World Grand Prix champion Mike De Decker in the afternoon session.
William O’Connor leads the chasing pack, £2,500 adrift of Ratajski, and the former Euro Tour finalist must reach at least the quarter-finals this weekend and hope for a Ratajski defeat to De Decker if he to have any chance of gate-crashing next month’s event.
O’Connor, who thrashed Gurney 6-1 in his opener, now comes up against 11th seed Danny Noppert – runner-up in last weekend’s Hungarian Darts Trophy.
Raymond van Barneveld is level with O’Connor in the race for the World Grand Prix, and the five-time World Champion faces a crucial showdown with seventh seed Damon Heta in the evening session.
Meanwhile, Martin Schindler launches the defence of his Swiss Trophy title with a tie against his World Cup team-mate Ricardo Pietreczko.
World number one Luke Humphries starts his latest quest for a second European Tour title of the month with a clash against Callan Rydz – who averaged 100.5 in a 6-1 rout of Connor Scutt in Round One.
A blockbuster all-Dutch encounter sees World Youth champion Gian van Veen take on former European Tour event finalist Dirk van Duijvenbode.
A repeat of the 2023 World Matchplay final sees Jonny Clayton take on Nathan Aspinall – twice a European Tour event winner this year.
Dave Chisnall faces another crucial contest in his quest for European Championship qualification when he comes up against Luke Woodhouse – who edged past Lukas Wenig in a deciding leg on Friday.
Josh Rock, who has reached at least the semi-final stage of his last three European Tour appearances, opens up against 2024 European Championship finalist Jermaine Wattimena.
World number four Stephen Bunting aims to bounce back from last week’s shock defeat to Thibault Tricole when he meets quick-fire Dutchman Chris Landman.
Two-time World Champion Peter Wright, who has suffered five Second Round exits on the European Tour this season, looks to avoid another potential banana skin when he faces Norway’s number one – Cor Dekker.
James Wade, this year’s World Matchplay and UK Open runner-up, looks to continue his clinical record on the European Tour this term by overcoming World Grand Prix semi-finalist Ryan Joyce.
Ryan Searle, who notably squandered seven match darts in last year’s Swiss Darts Trophy final, aims to banish those demons, starting with a tricky tie against World Grand Prix-chasing Niels Zonneveld.
Rob Cross, who remains outside of the provisional qualification places for the European Championship, faces another crucial clash against Richard Veenstra, while World Championship semi-finalist Chris Dobey takes on Austrian stalwart Mensur Suljovic.
Ross Smith has withdrawn from the tournament for family reasons, meaning Ritchie Edhouse receives a bye through to Sunday’s Last 16.
The action gets under way from 12pm BST, with Second Round ties to be contested over the best of 11 legs.
