The 2025 BetVictor World Cup of Darts draws to a close in Frankfurt on Sunday as the eight remaining nations battle it out for glory.

A pulsating three days of action has seen 40 teams whittled down to eight, with two of the top four seeds crashing out in their opening match on Saturday.

One of the most memorable sessions in PDC World Cup history saw Netherlands complete a remarkable whitewash of two-time champions Scotland, before hosts Germany pulled off a stunning scalp of odds-on title favourites England.

Three former champions remain in the running, as well as two nations appearing at this stage of the competition for the first time.

Germany will bid to follow up their sensational scalp of reigning champions England by overcoming 2022 champions Australia in the afternoon’s quarter-finals.

European Tour event winners Martin Schindler and Ricardo Pietreczko produced a clinical display of finishing to dump out Luke Humphries and Luke Littler, having swept aside Portugal and Singapore in the Group Stage.

Damon Heta and Simon Whitlock have dropped just two legs en route to this stage, whitewashing Spain 4-0 and thrashing last year’s runners-up Austria 4-1, before coasting to an 8-1 demolition of debutants Argentina in the Last 16.

However, it is the Netherlands who have proved the stand-out performers of the week so far, with Danny Noppert and Gian van Veen yet to concede a leg in reaching the quarter-finals.

Bidding to secure a record-equalling fifth title for the Netherlands, the new-look pairing have won all 16 legs played, including a prolific 8-0 whitewash of Gary Anderson and Peter Wright on Saturday evening.

The Dutch duo now come up against rank outsiders Czechia – who have already broken new ground by reaching the quarter-finals for the first time.

Karel Sedláček and Petr Křivka saw off Chinese Taipei and India 4-2 in Group J before an inspired Sedlacek display guided them to an 8-3 success over Malaysia in the Last 16.

Second seeds Wales aim to remain in contention for a third World Cup crown when they take on Hong Kong.

Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton, champions in 2020 and 2023, set their stall out in style by thrashing the Philippines 8-2 with a 96.4 average on Saturday.

The multiple major winners are now looking to reach the semi-finals of the BetVictor World Cup for the fifth consecutive outing as a pair.

Standing in the way of Wales and a place in tonight’s semis are Asian Tour stars Man Lok Leung and Lok Yin Lee – who have already thrashed USA and Bahrain 4-1 and 4-0 respectively, before averaging 94 in an 8-4 victory over Sweden to break new ground.

Meanwhile, a tasty opening quarter-final sees fourth seeds Northern Ireland take on the Republic of Ireland.

Pairing up for the first time, multiple ranking event winner Josh Rock and two-time major winner Daryl Gurney hit the ground running with a dominant 8-2 victory over South Africa on Saturday and are now eyeing a third semi-final appearance for Northern Ireland since 2014.

Republic of Ireland, meanwhile, took full advantage of their Group Stage reprieve by storming past Switzerland 8-3 to reach the quarter-finals for only the second time in PDC World Cup history.

William O’Connor, part of the side which finished runner-up in 2019, and former UK Open semi-finalist Keane Barry only made it out of the group by virtue of legs won against the throw but will now be targeting a huge victory over their border rivals.

The action gets under way from 12pm BST, with quarter-finals and semi-finals to be contested over the best of 15 legs and the final best of 19.
