Michael van Gerwen withdraws from Premier League Darts Night Nine in Berlin
Michael van Gerwen has withdrawn from Night Nine of BetMGM Premier League Darts in Berlin due to a shoulder injury.
Van Gerwen had been hoping to continue his run of success in the Premier League’s visits to the Uber Arena, which include victories in the 2022 Play-Offs and last year’s league night.
However, a shoulder injury has ruled him out of Night Nine of the competition, with the 35-year-old making the decision to withdraw less than an hour before the start of play after arriving at the venue.
His scheduled quarter-final opponent – Gerwyn Price – receives a Bye through to the semi-finals under tournament rules, picking up two league points and +1 leg difference, while Van Gerwen receives no league points and -6 leg difference.
Price now awaits the winner of the tie between league leader Luke Littler and Chris Dobey in the second semi-final.
Van Gerwen has also pulled out of this weekend’s International Darts Open in Riesa – where he was due to face either Andrew Gilding or William O’Connor in Saturday’s Second Round.
