Luke Littler lands record-equalling fourth Premier League weekly title in Newcastle
Luke Littler coasted to a record-equalling fourth weekly title on Night Eight of the Premier League in Newcastle on Thursday.
Littler equalled last year’s title of nightly titles at only the halfway stage of the competition as he triumphed on Tyneside to pull further clear at the top of the table.
The 18-year-old made it back-to-back £10,000 bonuses as he followed up last week’s success in Cardiff with another five-point haul at the Utilita Arena.
The reigning World Champion thrashed rival Luke Humphries 6-1 in the final and dropped just four legs in total en route to glory.
“It’s another night win and another trophy, so I’m delighted,” said Littler.
“It’s more points on the board and I’m sitting comfortably at the top of the table now, so I should be even more settled going into the next few weeks.
“Me and Luke both said we felt tired before the final, so I’m just happy to get over the line.
“I’m playing too well for players not to be thinking about playing me, rather than just playing the board.”
Littler began the night with 110 average in a ten-minute 6-0 demolition of Stephen Bunting – the first whitewash in the Premier League since 2023.
He then defeated Rob Cross in the semi-finals for the third week running, averaging 97.5 in a 6-3 success, before hammering an out of sorts Humphries in the final, with both players averaging a modest 93.
Littler capitalised on ten costly missed darts at doubles from the world number one – who is now eight points adrift of his rival in the race for top spot.
Humphries was unable to replicate the 106.7 average which saw him dispatch Nathan Aspinall 6-5 in the semi-finals, having earlier denied Chris Dobey a fairy-tale homecoming with a 6-3 win in the quarter-finals.
Local hero Dobey received a memorable reception on his return to Tyneside but could not avert a sixth quarter-final defeat of the campaign despite two ton-plus checkouts.
Aspinall held his nerve to deny Van Gerwen in a last-leg decider and close the gap on the top four to just two points, while Bunting suffered his eighth consecutive quarter-final defeat to remain rooted to the foot of the table.
Cross made it back-to-back victories over Price, following up last week’s dramatic triumph in Cardiff with a 6-3 win over the below-par Welshman – who averaged just 86.2.
