Premier League Darts 2025 Night Seven Preview and Order of Play | Star names collide in Cardiff
Premier League Darts heads to Cardiff for Night Seven on Thursday as the big names battle it out at the Utilita Arena.
The round-robin phase is approaching the halfway stage, with the race for the play-offs intensifying and crucial points up for grabs at both ends of the table.
The opening six weekly titles have been shared among three players, with Luke Littler, Luke Humphries and Gerwyn Price securing two titles apiece to emerge as frontrunners for Finals Night.
Gerwyn Price took the spoils in Nottingham last week to climb to third in the table, and the Welshman will be poised for a roof-raising reception on his return to the capital.
Price has reached the play-offs just once in six previous Premier League appearances but has enjoyed his best-ever start to the tournament, adding to his Night Three triumph in Dublin with victory at the Motorpoint Arena last week.
The 2021 World Champion boasts an impressive recent record in Cardiff, claiming the weekly title in 2023, before finishing runner-up to Michael Smith last time out.
Price opens up with a clash against Rob Cross – whom he defeated in last year’s semi-finals at this venue, as well as the final of the 2024 Nordic Masters.
Cross has eight points to his name, having lost in three consecutive weekly semi-finals, most recently at the hands of Littler with a 103.8 average in Nottingham.
Meanwhile, league leader and defending champion Littler starts his campaign in Cardiff against Nathan Aspinall in a repeat of the Night Five final.
Littler prevailed 6-3 to claim the crown a fortnight ago and continue his dominant head-to-head record over Aspinall, making it ten wins from their 11 meetings to date.
Runner-up in Nottingham, Littler has reached the final in four of the last five weeks and boasts a tournament average of 103.8, almost ten points higher than Aspinall.
Aspinall has lost in two weekly finals this term but will be determined to bounce back from his disappointing defeat to Michael van Gerwen in last week’s quarter-finals with an 89 average.
World number one Luke Humphries begins his bid for a third weekly title of the season with a showdown against seven-time champion Van Gerwen.
Humphries was knocked off the top of the table for the first time this season by Littler after suffering a second successive quarter-final exit.
The World Masters champion has never lost three consecutive quarter-finals in the Premier League and will be determined to get back to winning ways in his quest to regain top spot.
Humphries defeated Van Gerwen 6-5 in the semi-finals on opening night in Belfast – one of five semi-final losses in six weeks for the Dutchman.
Van Gerwen had already picked up a hat-trick of weekly titles by this stage of last year’s competition and is holding down fourth spot, two points ahead of Aspinall and Cross.
The three-time World Champion was the only Premier League player to make the midweek trip to Hildesheim for the ProTour, but was beaten in Round One by Niko Springer on Monday before pulling out of Tuesday’s event.
The opening match of the night sees the bottom two collide in a bid to stop the rot, as Chris Dobey faces Stephen Bunting.
The duo have lost 11 consecutive Premier League matches between them, with Bunting yet to get off the mark and Dobey without a win since Night One.
Peter Wright lost his opening six matches in last year’s competition, and Bunting will be desperate to also make it seventh time lucky, having averaged above 100 in three of his defeats so far.
Dobey has failed to add to his points tally since finishing runner-up on Night One in Belfast and already finds himself seven points adrift of the top four.
The action gets under way from 7pm GMT, with all matches to be contested over the best of 11 legs.
