The sixth staging of the US Darts Masters commences in New York on Friday as the PDC stars and North American representatives collide.

The World Series of Darts returns to The Theater at Madison Square Garden as 16 players battle it out over two days for the £20,000 top prize.

The field features the eight Premier League Darts stars alongside three North American Tour Card holders and a further five CDC qualifiers.

Reigning champion Michael van Gerwen will get his title defence under way with a tie against fellow Tour Card holder Danny Lauby.

Van Gerwen, a winner of 21 World Series titles, stormed to glory here last year by whitewashing Jeff Smith in the final, and the Dutchman is bidding to become the first player to successfully retain this title.

The three-time World Champion surrendered his Premier League title at the semi-final stage a week ago and his only PDC silverware this season has come on the World Series at the Dutch Masters.

Lauby, meanwhile, made his World Series debut in the 2018 US Masters and claimed a coveted Tour Card for the first time by coming through Qualifying School in January.

Elsewhere, newly-crowned Premier League champion Luke Littler takes to the MSG stage for the first time to face Canadian number one Matt Campbell.

Littler went one better than his runner-up spot at the World Championship by defeating Luke Humphries to claim the sport’s most prestigious invitational title at The O2 last Thursday.

The 17-year-old sensation landed a sensational nine-darter in the final and has also produced a perfect leg in the Bahrain Masters and Belgian Open – going on to win both titles.

He starts out against world number 51 Campbell – whom he defeated by four sets to one in the Third Round at Ally Pally in December after the Canadian ace had knocked out James Wade in the previous round.

Reigning World Champion Humphries opens up with a clash against Canada’s David Cameron.

Humphries fell narrowly short in his quest to add the Premier League crown to his four major titles in the last seven months, suffering his second defeat in a major final this season.

The world number one has claimed a title on both the European Tour and ProTour this term and is now searching for his first World Series silverware.

Cameron, the 2022 World Seniors Masters champion, is one of three CDC qualifiers in the line-up, having picked up a CDC ProTour title in 2024.

Michael Smith, the 2022 US Masters champion, opens up with a tie against last year’s beaten finalist Jeff Smith.

Bully Boy saw his Premier League challenge fall short at the semi-final stage last Thursday but now turns his attention towards competing for a fourth World Series title.

Canada’s Smith enjoyed a dream run to the final here last year, defeating Peter Wright, Nathan Aspinall and Humphries along the way, and returns as a CDC qualifier after dropping off the PDC tour.

Aspinall, the 2019 champion in Las Vegas, faces a tricky opener against CDC Continental Cup Winner Stowe Buntz.

Aspinall narrowly missed out on a place in the Premier League play-offs for the second season running and will be determined to bounce back in what is his 11th World Series appearance.

Buntz enjoyed a terrific run to the quarter-finals of the Grand Slam last November, finishing top of a group which also included Wright, Dave Chisnall and Stephen Bunting, before defeating Andrew Gilding in the Last 16 and eventually losing out to Bunting.

Three-time World Series event winner Gerwyn Price comes up against America’s Jules van Dongen in Round One for the second successive year.

Price prevailed 6-2 with a 105 average when the pair met on this stage 12 months ago and will be eyeing a repeat performance as he aims to put a disappointing Premier League campaign behind him.

Having dropped of the PDC tour at the end of last season, Van Dongen immediately bounced back by coming through European Qualifying School, but has picked up just £2,000 in ranking prize money so far this season.

Two-time World Champion Wright aims to avoid a potential banana skin at the hands of American ace Alex Spellman.

Wright finished rock bottom of the Premier League table for the second season running after mustering only two wins during the 16-week campaign, but the Scot has shown glimpses of his vintage best form on the European Tour and ProTour in recent months.

Spellman was beaten 6-2 by Humphries in Round One here last year and has gone on to make his debut in the World Championship, as well as hit a nine-darter in last month’s Cross Border Challenge.

The opening match of the evening sees three-time World Series event winner Rob Cross take on debutant qualifier Adam Sevada.

The action gets under way from 12am BST (7pm local time), with First Round matches to be contested over the best of 11 legs.
