The top 16 seeds kick off their 2024 German Darts Grand Prix campaigns in Munich on Sunday as the Second Round action takes centre stage.

Day One at the Kulturhalle Zenith saw a host of big names fall at the first hurdle, including five-time World Champion Raymond van Barneveld and former major winners James Wade and Andrew Gilding.

An unmissable Easter Sunday double session sees the Second Round ties take place, with each of the successful qualifiers facing a seeded opponent.

The afternoon session features a showdown between World Matchplay champion Nathan Aspinall and a resurgent Dirk van Duijvenbode.

Aspinall finished runner-up in Thursday’s Premier League Night Nine in Belfast and saw off Michael Unterbuchner 6-2 on Saturday, while Van Duijvenbode looks to have put his recent injury hell behind him after reaching the final of Players Championship Six earlier this month.

Premier League star Rob Cross, winner of a European Tour event last year, opens up with a tie against two-time major winner Daryl Gurney – who knocked out James Wade in Round One.

Former European Champion Ross Smith faces a tough opener against World Championship quarter-finalist Brendan Dolan – who swept aside Alan Soutar 6-2 on Saturday.

Chris Dobey produced the stand-out performance of the opening round as he averaged 103.4 and landed a 170 checkout in a 6-2 win over Viktor Tingström, and he now comes up against Polish number one Krzysztof Ratajski.

Sixth seed Josh Rock aims to kick-start his season with a strong run here, and he starts out against former Lakeside semi-finalist Richard Veenstra.

Masters champion Stephen Bunting opens up against Jermaine Wattimena – who whitewashed Franz Rötzsch in Round One, while Players Championship Three winner Ryan Searle faces former World Cup of Darts finalist Steve Lennon – who overcame Lukas Wenig on Saturday.

Last year’s German Championship winner Ricardo Pietreczko aims to delight his home crowd by denying former ProTour event winner Ryan Joyce – who took out 150 in a 6-4 win over Kevin Doets.

The evening session sees Michael Smith launch the defence of his title with a tie against an in-form Cameron Menzies – who averaged 98.2 in a high quality 6-4 win over Mike De Decker after the Belgian had missed double 12 for a nine-darter.

World number two Michael van Gerwen – who has won just one of his last six Premier League matches – will be hoping for a change of fortunes when he faces Dutch compatriot Jeffrey De Zwaan.

Another tasty all-Dutch clash sees former UK Open champion Danny Noppert take on World Youth Championship finalist Gian van Veen – who edged out Raymond van Barneveld in a deciding leg on Saturday.

World Champion and Premier League leader Luke Humphries starts his quest for a sixth European Tour title against Luke Woodhouse – who seized his late call-up via the reserve list by defeating Niels Zonneveld in a deciding leg.

Former World Champions Gerwyn Price and Peter Wright go head-to-head in one of the stand-out Second Round ties as Price aims to avenge his defeat to Snakebite in the Premier League a fortnight ago.

Wright made a terrific start in Munich on Saturday, averaging close to 104 in a 6-3 success over Jose De Sousa, and the reigning European Champion will look to pick up from where he left off.

Former Premier League champion Jonny Clayton takes on former Premier League finalist Joe Cullen – who thrashed Gilding 6-2 with a 99.6 average in Round One.

Dave Chisnall, the number one seed after winning three Euro Tour events in 2023, meets reigning UK Open champion Dimitri van den Bergh – who survived three match darts from Gabriel Clemens in a dramatic opener last night.

Damon Heta, the number four seed, looks to spoil the party in Munich by ending the hopes of home favourite Martin Schindler – a semi-finalist on the Euro Tour last year.

The action gets under way from 12pm BST, with Second Round matches to be contested over the best of 11 legs.
