The 2024 Dutch Darts Masters commences on Friday as the seeded stars aim to avoid an early exit in Den Bosch.

The second World Series event of the season sees eight PDC stars joined by eight Benelux representatives as they compete for the title at Maaspoort Den Bosch.

All eyes will once again be on teenage sensation Luke Littler as he starts his quest for back-to-back titles with a tie against home favourite Dirk van Duijvenbode.

Littler made more history last Friday by claiming the Bahrain Masters title on his World Series debut, becoming the youngest winner of a senior PDC title just two days before his 17th birthday.

The World Championship finalist also landed a sensational nine-darter in Bahrain, becoming the youngest player to achieve a perfect leg in a televised event, and he now heads to Holland looking to pick up from where he left off.

The World Youth champion is preparing for his Premier League bow next Thursday and starts his campaign in Den Bosch against former World Grand Prix finalist Van Duijvenbode – a player desperate to mark a return to form amid injury woes.

Van Duijvenbode finished runner-up in this event two years ago and was twice a finalist on the European Tour last year before sustaining a serious shoulder injury which blighted the back end of his season, resulting in five consecutive First Round exits in TV majors.

Meanwhile, former World Champion Gerwyn Price aims to dethrone defending champion Dimitri van den Bergh.

Price, a three-time World Series event winner, was beaten 7-3 by Littler in the Semi-Finals of the Bahrain Masters, following on from his shock Third Round exit at the hands of Brendan Dolan at the World Championship.

The Iceman was narrowly beaten 7-6 by Van den Bergh in the Semi-Finals of last year’s Poland Darts Masters and will be eyeing revenge and kick-start a title challenge this weekend.

Van den Bergh reached the Semi-Finals of last year’s UK Open – the highlight of an otherwise disappointing campaign for the Belgian number one – who failed to qualify for the Grand Slam and was beaten by Florian Hempel in the Last 64 at Ally Pally.

Reigning World Champion and world number one Luke Humphries begins his latest bid for a first World Series crown with a tie against Jermaine Wattimena.

Humphries saw his 20-match unbeaten run brought to an end by Price in the Quarter-Finals in Bahrain and will be keen to bounce back and set up a potential showdown with Littler in the Last Eight on Saturday.

The four-time major winner starts out as huge favourite to dispatch rapid Dutchman Wattimena – who saw off Fallon Sherrock in the opening round of the recent World Championship before going down 3-1 to Martin Schindler in Round Two.

Another tasty tussle sees 2018 World Champion Rob Cross take on five-time World Champion Raymond van Barneveld.

Cross enjoyed a resurgent 2023 campaign which saw him finish runner-up in the Masters and Grand Slam and reach the Semi-Finals of the World Championship, resulting in a return to the Premier League this year.

He will look to spoil the party by overcoming home hero Van Barneveld – who enjoyed a fine run to the Last 16 of the recent World Championship before bowing out at the hands of a rampant Littler.

Barney is making his 39th World Series appearance, but is yet to claim silverware, finishing runner-up in five events – including the inaugural World Series event in Dubai back in 2013.

Dutch duo Michael van Gerwen and Vincent van der Voort put their close friendship to one side as they face off in the final match of the night.

Premier League champion Van Gerwen was denied a 20th World Series title by Littler in last week’s Bahrain final and now makes the short journey from his home in Vlijmen in search of that landmark.

Van Gerwen boasts a dominant head-to-head record over his best friend Van der Voort – who starts the season as world number 53 after failing to qualify for the World Championship for the first time since joining the PDC in 2007.

World number three Michael Smith faces a formidable opening test against World Youth Championship finalist Gian van Veen.

An indifferent 2023 for Smith saw him reach the Semi-Finals of the Masters, Premier League and World Grand Prix, but surrender his world title following a Last 16 defeat to Chris Dobey at Ally Pally.

He was narrowly beaten 7-6 by Van Gerwen in the Semi-Finals in Bahrain and will be braced for a close battle with 21-year-old Van Veen – who reached the Semi-Finals on his European Championship debut last October and racked up six Development Tour titles.

A familiar fixture kicks off the night’s action as former UK Open champions Nathan Aspinall and Danny Noppert collide.

The pair met four times on the Euro Tour last year, sharing two wins apiece, before Aspinall prevailed in the Second Round of the World Matchplay en route to taking the title and was a 6-3 winner when they met in the World Series Finals.

Aspinall’s 2024 campaign began with a narrow 6-5 victory over Lourence Ilagan in Bahrain, before finding himself on the receiving end of a Littler nine-darter and a 6-3 defeat despite an average of 100.5.

Noppert was a semi-finalist in last year’s European Championship but was soundly beaten in straight sets by Scott Williams in his opener at Ally Pally, however he comes into the new campaign as world number seven and will be keen to get off to a winning start.

Four-time World Series event winner Peter Wright faces a tough opener against Dutch star Kevin Doets.

Reigning European Champion Wright suffered a Second Round exit to Jim Williams at the World Championship and ended the season at his lowest ranking (eighth) in more than a decade.

Snakebite survived a scare from Haruki Muramatsu in the opening round in Bahrain before being thrashed 6-1 by Michael Smith in the Last Eight.

Doets is making his World Series debut after an eye-catching display at Ally Pally, defeating Stowe Buntz in the opening match of the tournament before being narrowly beaten 3-2 by Michael Smith despite registering nine 180s and averaging 99.5.

That run was enough for the 25-year-old to retain his Tour Card, and he will be keen to replicate that display in a bid to delight his home crowd here.

The action gets under way from 6pm GMT, with First Round matches to be contested over the best of 11 legs
