Poland Darts Masters 2023 | Day Two Preview and Order of Play
The 2023 Poland Darts Masters reaches its climax in Warsaw on Saturday as the eight remaining players vie to become the first name on the new trophy.
Day One of the inaugural World Series event saw seven of the eight PDC representatives safely progress through the opening round, while home hero Krzysztof Ratajski raised the roof with victory over Rob Cross.
Saturday sees the Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and final take place in one unmissable evening session in front of a 5,000-strong crowd at the COS Torwar.
Polish number one Ratajski aims to make home advantage count once again when he takes on Premier League star Dimitri van den Bergh in the Last Eight.
Ratajski is the most decorated darter Poland has ever produced, following up his 2017 World Masters triumph with nine PDC ranking titles, as well as a run to the Semi-Finals of the 2021 World Matchplay.
It was Van den Bergh who denied ‘The Polish Eagle’ a place in the final at the Winter Gardens two years ago with a crushing 17-9 success, and Ratajski will be targeting a slice of revenge.
Van den Bergh, a winner of two World Series events last year, recovered from 3-0 down to defeat Karel Sedlacek 6-4 on Friday with a blistering average of 105.3.
A mouth-watering start to proceedings sees former World Champion Gerwyn Price take on former UK Open champion Nathan Aspinall.
Price has reached the final in five of his last seven World Series events and returned to action after winning a second World Cup of Darts title alongside Jonny Clayton for Wales last month.
The Premier League runner-up held off a spirited display from Polish qualifier Łukasz Wacławski in Round One, missing double 12 for a nine-darter in the process.
Aspinall, whose sole World Series title to date came at the 2019 US Masters in Las Vegas, produced the highest average of the opening round (105.87) in thrashing Croatia’s Boris Krcmar 6-2.
Premier League champion Michael van Gerwen faces a show-down with last weekend’s European Matchplay winner – Luke Humphries.
Fresh from landing his fifth Euro Tour title last Sunday, Humphries whitewashed Hungarian qualifier Nándor Major 6-0 and will now have his sights set on a first World Series crown.
Van Gerwen defeated Humphries 8-6 in the final to clinch the Belgian Open title in May, having also prevailed when the pair met in the UK Open earlier in the year.
Van Gerwen is the most successful player in World Series history with 18 titles, the most recent of which coming at the US Masters in New York in June.
The three-time World Champion missed the recent World Cup of Darts following dental surgery and was beaten by Raymond van Barneveld in the European Matchplay last weekend, but returned to winning ways by seeing off Adam Gawlas 6-3 with a 98.5 average on Friday.
Meanwhile, reigning World Champion Michael Smith takes on former UK Open champion Danny Noppert.
Smith followed up his historic Ally Pally triumph with winning the Bahrain Masters little over a week later, and has also picked up titles on the ProTour and European Tour this term.
The world number one, who switched darts manufacturers last weekend, blitzed past Polish number two Krzysztof Kciuk 6-1 despite an average of just 86.
Noppert, winner of a Players Championship event this season, opened up with a commanding 6-2 win over Tour Card holder Radek Szagański.
The action gets under way from 6pm BST, with Quarter-Finals to be contested over the best of 11 legs, Semi-Finals best of 13 and the final best of 15.
