Czech Darts Open 2023 | Day Three Preview and Order of Play
The 2023 Czech Darts Open draws to a close in Prague on Sunday as the 16 remaining players battle it out for glory.
A £30,000 top prize is up for grabs at the PVA Expo as 14 seeds and two qualifiers collide over two sessions.
The afternoon session plays host to the Third Round ties, before the Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and final follow in the evening.
Reigning champion Luke Humphries steps up the defence of his title with a tie against Premier League star Dimitri van den Bergh.
Top seed Humphries is vying to reach a third consecutive European Tour final and a fourth of the year, and opened up with a 6-4 win over European Champion Ross Smith on Saturday.
Van den Bergh is aiming to reach a first Euro Tour Quarter-Final of the season at the seventh time of asking, having opened up with a 102.4 average in a routine 6-2 win over Stefan Bellmont on Saturday.
The stand-out tie of the Last 16 sees Michael van Gerwen and Josh Rock go head-to-head for the third time on the Euro Tour this season, with both having claimed one win apiece so far.
Van Gerwen is bidding for back-to-back titles following last weekend’s Belgian Open triumph and averaged 99.6 in defeating Mike De Decker 6-4 in Round Two despite 14 missing darts at doubles.
Rock, who finished runner-up in the recent Austrian Open, will be out to avenge last week’s 7-3 defeat to MVG in the Semi-Finals in Wieze and remain in contention for a first Euro Tour crown.
Second seed Dave Chisnall steps up his quest for a third Euro Tour title of the year when he takes on UK Open champion Andrew Gilding.
Chisnall defeated Gilding in last year’s Belgian Open final and had won six meetings in a row before ‘Goldfinger’ stopped the rot in last month’s German Darts Grand Prix.
Two-time World Champion Peter Wright aims to reach a third Euro Tour Quarter-Final of the campaign at the expense of eighth seed Danny Noppert.
Wright recovered from 5-3 down to edge out Brendan Dolan in a deciding leg with an average of just 90.6, while Noppert averaged over ten points more in his 6-4 success over Jose De Sousa.
Former World Champion Rob Cross, a three-time runner-up on the Euro Tour last season, aims to spoil the party when he faces home hero Karel Sedlacek.
Cross has not made it beyond this stage in his last four Euro Tour outings and now faces the crowd favourite who stunned former Masters champion Joe Cullen with a 6-4 scalp on Saturday.
Premier League star Nathan Aspinall, runner-up in the recent German Darts Grand Prix, takes on multiple Players Championship event winner Ryan Searle.
Aspinall produced the stand-out performance of the Second Round as he averaged 103.6 in a 6-4 win over Martin Lukeman, while Searle saw off Steve Beaton by the same scoreline.
European Open runner-up Dirk van Duijvenbode continues his chase for a first Euro Tour title when he faces recent Austrian Open winner Jonny Clayton.
Van Duijvenbode has made it to the Third Round in all eight Euro Tour events this season to date as was a narrow 6-5 winner over Mario Vandenbogaerde on Saturday, while Clayton coasted past Martijn Kleermaker 6-1 despite an average of just 86.
Elsewhere, fourth seed and reigning World Cup champion Damon Heta comes up against Belgian stalwart Kim Huybrechts.
Heta’s sole Euro Tour title to date came at last season’s Gibraltar Trophy, while Huybrechts has claimed the 2013 Dutch Masters and 2015 European Grand Prix titles.
The action gets under way from 12pm BST, with Third Round and Quarter-Final ties to be contested over the best of 11 legs, Semi-Finals best of 13 and the final best of 15.
