Czech Darts Open 2023 | Day One Preview and Order of Play
The 2023 Czech Darts Open commences in Prague on Friday as the qualifiers face off in the opening round.
The eighth of 13 European Tour events this season features 48 players battling it out for £175,000 in prize money at the PVA Expo in Prague from May 12-14.
The top 16 players from the ProTour Order of Merit (as of March 7) are seeded and enter at the Second Round stage, while 32 qualifiers battle it out for the right to join them.
The afternoon session on Day One features a tie between three-time Euro Tour event winner Ian White and maximum machine Mike De Decker.
Jelle Klaasen, the 2006 Lakeside World Champion who came through the Associate Member qualifier, starts out against multiple PDC ranking event winner Brendan Dolan.
In-form Canadian Matt Campbell opens up against Belgian veteran Mario Vandenbogaerde, while Switzerland’s Stefan Bellmont looks to follow up last week’s maiden win on the Euro Tour by pulling off an upset against Rowby-John Rodriguez.
Irish youngster Dylan Slevin aims to move a step closer to the provisional qualification places for October’s European Championship by overcoming Filip Šebesta – one of five Czech representatives in the field.
Former Euro Tour finalist Martin Lukeman starts out against Hungarian qualifier Patrik Kovacs, while Dutch left-hander Geert Nentjes takes on Host Nation qualifier David Pisek.
Richard Veenstra, the 2019 Dutch Open winner, faces Host Nation qualifier Dalibor Šmolík, while the evening session sees reigning European Champion Ross Smith come up against debutant Jani Laurila of Finland.
Former Grand Slam champion and Premier League runner-up Jose De Sousa faces a tricky opener against former World Youth Champion Bradley Brooks.
Jamie Hughes, who claimed this title four years ago, opens up against Dutch stalwart Vincent van der Voort – making only his second Euro Tour appearance of the year.
Former Lakeside World Champion Steve Beaton, quarter-finalist in the season’s first Euro Tour event, starts out against Lithuanian star Darius Labanauskas.
Czech number one Adam Gawlas is set for a rapturous reception on home soil when he steps out to face Latvian ace Madars Razma.
Karel Sedlacek will also be aiming to delight his home crowd by dispatching new Tour Card holder Jeffrey Sparidaans – a player making his Euro Tour debut.
Stephen Bunting, who finished runner-up here in 2019, looks to kick-start another memorable run at the expense of rapid Dutchman Martijn Kleermaker.
Kim Huybrechts, winner of a Players Championship event earlier this season, faces former Euro Tour semi-finalist Callan Rydz – who received a late call-up via the Reserve List.
The action gets under way from 12pm BST, with First Round matches to be contested over the best of 11 legs.
