Gerwyn Price has returned to the top of the PDC Order of Merit following his run to the final of the 2022 World Matchplay.

Price had been ousted from the world number one spot by reigning World Champion Peter Wright in March, but has returned to the summit of the rankings just four months later.

The Welshman enjoyed a memorable run to the final at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool last week – where he was narrowly denied glory by Michael van Gerwen.

Price, who landed his fourth televised nine-darter of the year en route to the final, picked up £100,000 in prize money to move above Wright – who saw his title defence ended at the Quarter-Final stage.

Price is now just over £56,000 clear of ‘Snakebite’ on the two-year money list but will crucially look to defend the £500,000 he picked up courtesy of his maiden World Championship triumph in January 2021.

Meanwhile, Van Gerwen regained the world number three spot after claiming his third World Matchplay title to follow on from last month’s Premier League crown.

The Dutch star ended a six-year wait for the Phil Taylor Trophy with a timely late surge in the final, scooping a record £200,000 in prize money.

Van Gerwen leapfrogs world finalist Michael Smith, while James Wade remains in fifth and Jose de Sousa climbs one place to sixth after reaching the Quarter-Finals.

World Grand Prix champion Jonny Clayton is also up one to seventh, above Gary Anderson – who drops two places to eighth following his First Round exit in Blackpool.

Despite a superb run to the Semi-Finals, Dimitri van den Bergh drops five places to 14th after failing to fully defend his title-winning tally from two years ago.

Dirk van Duijvenbode, who enjoyed a personal best run to the Quarter-Finals, climbs two places to 12th, while UK Open champion Danny Noppert moves into the world’s top ten for the first time in his career.

Nathan Aspinall, who was denied by MVG in a Quarter-Final thriller, regains a place in the elite top 16, with Krzysztof Ratajski falling two places to 18th.

World Cup winner Simon Whitlock drops two places to 27th after failing to qualify for this year’s Matchplay, while Chris Dobey moves up three places to 28th despite squandering a huge lead against Rob Cross in Round One.

Vincent van der Voort, who narrowly missed out on qualification, drops three places to 31st, with 2020 semi-finalist Glen Durrant tumbling nine places to 42nd after also failing to secure a return to the famous Winter Gardens stage.

Martin Schindler and Madars Razma both climb two places following their debut appearances in Blackpool, with Martin Lukeman and Andrew Gilding rising six places and each into the top 64.

Rowby-John Rodriguez, who defeated Clayton in Round One, also climbs six places to 67th just six months after regaining a Tour Card at Qualifying School.

Keegan Brown falls eight places to 69th, while former World Champion Steve Beaton is also under threat of losing his Tour Card at the end of the season after slipping four places to 60th.
