Gary Anderson has been ruled out of Night Nine of the Premier League in Leeds on Thursday after testing positive for Covid-19.

The two-time Premier League champion had been scheduled to face league leader Michael van Gerwen in the Quarter-Finals at the First Direct Arena.

However, having felt unwell whilst at home, he has subsequently tested positive for Covid-19 prior to travelling to Yorkshire and will now miss out.

Under tournament rules, Van Gerwen is awarded a 6-0 walkover and progresses to the Semi-Finals – where he will take on either Michael Smith or Peter Wright later in the evening.

Anderson had suffered Quarter-Final defeats in six of the eight nights so far, and this latest blow will leave him rooted to the foot of the league table going into Night Ten in Manchester next week.

The Flying Scotsman becomes the second player to withdraw from a night during this year’s Premier League, with Gerwyn Price having missed Night Five in Brighton due to a hand injury.
