Gary Anderson “let himself down” says Joe Cullen following Premier League confrontation in Rotterdam

Joe Cullen has revealed Gary Anderson branded him “a cheat” following their frosty Premier League encounter in Rotterdam on Thursday.

Cullen recovered from 5-3 down to snatch a 6-5 victory after Anderson had missed three match darts in the deciding leg of their Quarter-Final contest at the Rotterdam Ahoy.

Anderson appeared irate towards Cullen during the final leg and his frustrations boiled over at the end of the match as he confronted his opponent over what he believed to be the use of deliberate tactics.

Cullen, however, vigorously denied any wrongdoing and quickly followed Anderson off the stage to protest his innocence.

“For want of a better expression, he called me a cheat,” Cullen told DAZN. “Gary was saying ‘I know what I did’, I said I don’t know what I did. I did absolutely nothing wrong. 

“I’ve never had an issue with Gary in the past.”

“I’ve done absolutely nothing wrong, my conscience is clear. I don’t know what it was.

“I said ‘watch every camera back you’ve got’. I don’t know whether it was the heat of the moment.

“We all do stupid things in the heat of the moment. I’m a lot of things but I’m not a cheat.

“I’ve got a lot of respect for Gary, he’s a great ambassador for the sport but I think he let himself down a bit tonight.”

Cullen went on to defeat Peter Wright 6-4 in the Semi-Finals before edging out home favourite Michael van Gerwen 6-5 in the final to become the sixth different winner of a weekly Premier League title in seven nights so far.

Cullen, who started the night bottom of the league table, now climbs to into the play-off places heading into Night Eight in Birmingham next week.
