Michael van Gerwen stormed to victory on Night Four of the Premier League in Exeter, whitewashing Peter Wright 6-0 in the final.

The five-time Premier League champion dropped only three legs on his way to clinching the £10,000 weekly bonus at the Westpoint Arena with some pinpoint finishing along the way.

Van Gerwen becomes the fourth different winner in as many nights since the new-look Premier League got under way.

The Dutch sensation kicked off the night with a 102.4 average in a 6-1 thrashing of defending champion Jonny Clayton.

Van Gerwen backed that up with a 104.4 average in a 6-2 win over two-time world finalist Michael Smith, landing four 180s and converting six doubles from eight attempts.

A one-sided final saw Van Gerwen punish a below-par Wright – who averaged just 87.5 and was afforded only two darts at a double by the ruthless Dutchman.

Van Gerwen averaged 99 and took out 134 on his way to the whitewash, landing 75 per cent on the doubles for the second game in a row.

“I think it was a really important win tonight, I’ve been waiting for this for quite a long time,” said Van Gerwen.

“I didn’t perform 100 per cent in the previous Premier League nights, but tonight I played some good darts.

“I think I deserved to win tonight and there’s more to come, hopefully I can kick on for the rest of the tournament.

“I’ve been trying to develop my game and improve; winning tonight gives me confidence.”

World Champion Wright, who claimed the Night One title in Cardiff, had seen off world number one Gerwyn Price and James Wade with 6-2 victories by averaging above 100 in both games.

The Scot, however, moves to the top of the overall league table on ten points, one clear of rival MVG.

Losing semi-finalists Smith and Wade leave Exeter with two points apiece thanks to their respective Quarter-Final victories over Joe Cullen and Gary Anderson – with Smith picking up his first win of the season.

The Premier League roadshow now heads to The Brighton Centre on Thursday March 10 for Night Five of the league phase.
