Paul Nicholson registered four consecutive wins to come out on top in Group Five of the Modus Icons of Darts Live League on Friday.
The former Players Champion had failed to finish higher than third in his previous four appearances earlier in the week but turned on the style to collect maximum points on Day Five of the ‘At Home’ event.
Nicholson began the day by defeating five-time World Champion Raymond van Barneveld 5-2 before surviving two missed match darts from Mark Webster on his way to a deciding leg victory.
The former World Cup of Darts finalist then saw off Andy Jenkins 5-2 before completing the clean sweep with a hard-fought 5-4 win over David Evans.
Evans had won each of the last two groups and extended his unbeaten run to seven matches with wins over Jenkins and Van Barneveld to start the day.
However, his rampant run was brought to an end by Nicholson, before a 5-2 win over Webster with a 98.3 average – the highest of the day – saw him secure second spot.
With Wessel Nijman having sat out Group Five, Evans now leads the way on 30 points in the overall table, six clear of the Dutch teenager – who replaces Evans in Saturday’s line-up.
Former Lakeside Champion Webster slumped to four consecutive defeats for the second day running and is now rooted to the foot of the overall table with just four points to his name.
The Modus Icons of Darts Live League features all players competing from home through a live webcam stream which is available to watch exclusively online.
