The World Matchplay is one of the most prestigious tournaments on the calendar. It has been an annual fixture held at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool since 1994 and features the world's top 16 players alongside 16 qualifiers.

The difference between this and other darts tournaments is that there is no deciding leg - players must win by two clear legs. The first round is usually played over the first to 10 legs, but if the score reaches 9-9, play continues until either player gains a two leg lead.

The first ever live televised nine darter was hit during this event in 2002. Phil Taylor achieved the feat against Chris Mason and was awarded a staggering £100,000 bonus by the sponsors.

The tournament attracts huge interest among fans, with tickets often selling out quicker than any other event on the calendar.
