Almost four years after his nine-darter against Gary Anderson in the final, Lewis replicated darts’ holy grail to send a sell-out crowd into delirium at Alexandra Palace.
The magical feat came in the fifth leg of the first set as the two-time World Champion opened up with back-to-back 180s, before firing in the customary 141 checkout to seal the deal.
The nine-darter, however, proved academic in the context of the match as Lewis squandered one match dart at double seven, going on to lose a pulsating contest 4-3 as van Barneveld completed a remarkable comeback.
The five-time World Champion battled back from 3-2 down to reel off the final two sets and stun the Stoke star for a place in the Quarter-Finals.
The nine-darter earns Lewis a £10,000 bonus providing no other player replicates the achievement for the remainder of the week
