Richie Burnett is being tipped for a surprise inclusion in the upcoming Celebrity Big Brother series after being frozen out of professional darts amid drug allegations.
The former world champion was banned from the 2015 World Championship at Alexandra Palace amid claims he used cocaine, but has so far refused to comment on the allegations.
If found guilty, 1995 Lakeside king Burnett could face anything from a 12-month to life ban from PDC competition, effectively ending his successful career.
The charismatic Welshman is rumoured to have been offered the chance to enter the CBB house when the new series gets underway next Wednesday.
An unnamed source told The Sun: “Richie’s career has been hanging in the balance ever since he was banned last month.
“It’s been a rough time for him. But he is hoping that Big Brother can change things. It’s a chance for him to give his side of the story.”
Some bookmakers are already offering outright odds on Burnett to win the show, but the line-up will not be confirmed until the launch night on Channel 5 next week.
Burnett could join the likes of Patsy Kensit, Jake Quickenden, X Factor runner up Marcus Collins, gossip blogger Perez Hilton, Baywatch star Jeremy Jackson and internet sensation – the Wealdstone Raider.
Five-time World Champion Eric Bristow was the last darts personality to appear in a reality TV series when he starred on ITV’s ‘I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here’ in 2012.
