Phil Taylor will return to the Winter Gardens in Blackpool as part of the Sky Sports commentary team for the World Matchplay later this month.

Taylor, who claimed an unprecedented 16 BetVictor World Matchplay titles during his illustrious career including a crowning glory 12 months ago, will return to his favourite arena as an analyst for the host broadcaster.

The 57-year-old will be on-hand to offer his expert insight into the sport's summer show-piece, which takes place from July 21-29.

Taylor will join the likes of two-time World Matchplay champion Rod Harrington, two-time Matchplay runner-up John Part and 2003 finalist Wayne Mardle in Sky's commentary roster.

Taylor defeated Peter Wright 18-8 in an emotional final last year before retiring from professional competition at the end of the season.

He has since been entertaining fans worldwide on the exhibition circuit and has also provided co-commentary on Australian television during his Down Under tour in January.

Taylor famously hit the first ever nine-dart finish to be broadcast live on UK television in the 2002 World Matchplay and repeated the feat 12 years later.

He went 38 matches undefeated in the tournament between 2008 and 2015 and recorded 62 of the 127 ton-plus averages in the history of the competition, including eight of the top ten.
