After a shaky start to life in the Premier League, Cross eased the pressure with an impressive win over Peter Wright last week but now faces another tough test in front of a record crowd.

The world number three recaptured the winning formula during the UK Open qualifiers and is now bidding to maintain his unbeaten record against crowd favourite Van Barneveld.

Cross has won all three of their previous meetings, including a thrilling 10-7 victory in the Last 16 of the Grand Slam, but is facing a player who often preserves his best form for the big occasion, particularly in this competition.

Premier League stalwart Van Barneveld began the year brightly by reaching the final of the Unibet Masters but has struggled on both floor and stage since, notably averaging just 93 in a disappointing defeat to Simon Whitlock last week.

Prior to that, the five-time World Champion had battled back to earn a draw with Daryl Gurney in Week One before edging past Mensur Suljovic 7-5 in Cardiff.

He has registered prize money in just two of his five ProTour appearances so far this year and failed to qualify for the opening two European Tour events of the campaign.

The world number eleven will be determined to put on a show in front of the German contingent of his 'Barney Army' but will require a marked improvement on last week's display if he is to take anything from this contest.

Both players have a tournament average of 95, while Van Barneveld has a checkout percentage of 34.6 to Voltage's 27 per cent - the lowest of the ten-man field so far.

The match gets underway from around 9.30pm GMT and will be contested over the best of 12 legs at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin..
