Ryan Searle booked his place in the Third Round of the European Darts Grand Prix courtesy of a 6-4 scalp of Glen Durrant in Sindelfingen on Friday, as Steve Beaton continued his fine form by defeating Stephen Bunting.

Searle benefited from the late withdrawal of James Wade to become the first man through to Sunday's Last 16 after producing a fine display of finishing to deny Durrant with a 6-4 triumph.

Searle, who reached the Last 16 of December's World Championship, opened up a 3-0 lead with checkouts of 110, 119 and 84 before 'Duzza' hit back with three legs in a row to level.

Searle, though, continued his clinical finishing with a 112 checkout to edge back in front, and after Durrant took out 80 for parity, Searle landed tops before repeating the feat in the following leg for a 14-darter to seal victory.

Beaton, who produced a stunning nine-darter on the European Tour last month, recorded an impressive 6-4 win over fellow former Lakeside Champion Bunting to set up a Second Round clash with Mensur Suljovic.

UK Open champion Nathan Aspinall averaged 103 in a 6-1 demolition of Finland's Kim Viljanen to confirm a clash with home favourite Max Hopp on Saturday.

"I had a tough first game but I settled in from the start and played well," said Aspinall. "I felt really relaxed.

"I've got some history with Max, obviously he beat me in the youth final so it would be nice to get one back on him in his home country. If I play my game, I'll win."

Jamie Hughes will face fifth seed Adrian Lewis in the Last 32 after thrashing Host Nation qualifier Ricardo Pietreczko 6-1, while former Lakeside finalist Mark McGeeney took out 121 on the way to a 6-3 defeat of Josh Payne to mark his Euro Tour debut in style.

Jeffrey de Zwaan safely saw off Switzerland's Stefan Bellmont 6-2, while Brendan Dolan overcame Michael Rosenauer by the same scoreline to set up a show-down with reigning champion Michael van Gerwen.

Dimitri Van den Bergh brushed aside Austria's Michael Rasztovits for the loss of just one leg, as Krzysztof Ratajski recovered from 4-2 down with four consecutive legs to dispatch Robert Owen.

Niels Zonneveld progressed to a Second Round glamour tie with Peter Wright after defeating German qualifier Michael Hurtz 6-4, while James Richardson overcame Matthew Edgar 6-3 with a 96 average and five 180s to his name.

Ross Smith began the day with a routine 6-3 win over Croatian debutant Pero Ljubic, while Chris Dobey was ruthless in whitewashing Latvia's Madars Razma with a 103.6 average and 60 per cent on the doubles.

Keegan Brown safely saw off home hopeful Daniel Klose 6-3, while Northern Ireland's Gavin Carlin marked his European Tour debut with a 6-3 win over Germany's Dragutin Horvat.

Vincent van der Voort hit back from 4-2 down with four straight legs to put paid to the hopes of Durham left-hander Dave Prins.
