Gary Anderson produced a show-stopping 140 checkout in the deciding leg to defeat Michael van Gerwen and seal his progression to the Semi-Finals of the 2018 Champions League of Darts in Brighton.

The World Matchplay champion looked on course to be cruising into the knock-out phase as group winner after moving 9-6 ahead, but only for Van Gerwen to reel off three straight legs and force a decider.

The world number one then squandered two match darts to make it maximum points from this three group games, and Anderson punished emphatically with a stunning 140 checkout to snatch victory and a place in the Last Four at the expense of Daryl Gurney.

"The last three darts are the best I've ever thrown probably," admitted Anderson.

"I was in control then it all went Pete Tong as they say!

"In the last leg it was nice to do what Michael usually does to me. I was getting ready to shake his hand."

Anderson entered the tie knowing only a win would be sufficient to see him in to the Semis and began in style with a 160 checkout to claim the first leg.

He then doubled his lead before Van Gerwen took out 80 to get off the mark and finished 74 to level up.

Anderson then reeled off the next three legs to move 5-2 up, notably landing seven perfect darts in leg six and a further six perfect darts in leg eight before taking out 83 to go further clear.

Van Gerwen stopped the rot with a 112 checkout before a 76 finish moved Anderson 7-3 up at the interval.

The pair exchanged the next two legs before MVG finished 100 on two double tops and went on to clinch the next leg to close the gap to just 8-6 adrift.

An 11-darter got Anderson back on track, but a run of three straight legs from the Dutchman ensured a grandstand finish.

Anderson began the decider with a visit of 43 but later watched his rival miss match darts at double eight and double four before powering in a roof-raising 140 finish to seal the deal.

Anderson's win signalled heartbreak for Gurney - who had earlier defeated the eliminated Dave Chisnall 10-7 to put one foot in the Semi-Finals.

Gurney landed nine 180s and averaged 96 in a solid display, but bowed out of the competition in third place despite picking up four points from a possible six.

Peter Wright joined Mensur Suljovic in advancing from Group A following a commanding 10-3 win over Rob Cross in their straight shoot-out.

The world number two dominated the contest from the outset, opening up a 5-0 lead with a 121 checkout on the bullseye along the way.

Cross claimed three of the next four legs to give himself a lifeline, but the colourful Scot duly closed out the win with seven 180s and a 101.7 average to his name.

Defending champion Suljovic extended his unbeaten record in the Paddy Power Champions League to eight matches after a 10-1 annihilation of Simon Whitlock.

Suljovic produced an exhibition of finishing, converting ten of his 14 attempts at doubles and firing in a high checkout of 135 in a ruthless display.

He will now face Anderson in the opening Semi-Final of the evening, before tournament favourite Van Gerwen and rival Wright go head-to-head.
