Peter Wright has sent out an emphatic message to Kim Huybrechts ahead of their Second Round show-down at the World Matchplay, claiming the Belgian does not have the game to live with him.

Wright, who was beaten by Phil Taylor in last year's BetVictor World Matchplay final, began his 2018 Blackpool campaign with a routine 10-5 victory over Jelle Klaasen on Monday.

The colourful Scot averaged just 89 in his opener but has let fly on Wednesday's opponent Huybrechts, maintaining he fully expects to be in the Quarter-Finals.

"I expect to win, simple," revealed Wright, who has twice defeated the Belgian in this competition. "I want to win and I will win.

"Kim hasn't got the game to beat me so I'll be in the Quarter-Finals.

"I wanted to play a lot better [against Klassen] and beat the top averages that had been set.

"Mentally, I was ready to go out and hit a ton-plus average, but if you don't need to, you don't need to.

"What's the point in showing too much to the other guys?

"I think the other guys don't want to show too much either, they're playing poker and they don't want to show their hand too soon."

As the number two seed, Wright is situated in the bottom half of the draw and has played down the shock early exit of top seed and pre-tournament favourite Michael van Gerwen.

He added: "We all can beat each other.

"Michael [Van Gerwen] is not a great player, he's a good player.

"A great player is Phil Taylor and he's not in the tournament."

After tinkering with his tungsten setup once again, 'Snakebite' says he plans to stick with the same set of darts he triumphed with on Monday for his best of 21 show-down with Huybrechts.

"I'm working with the darts," added Wright. "That was the first ever game I'd played with them and they went alright, I was happy with my finishing."
