‘Mensur will get nothing off me’ insists Gurney ahead of Premier League clash

A bullish Daryl Gurney insists play-off rival Mensur Suljovic “will get nothing” from their Premier League show-down in Cardiff on Thursday.

The pair are locked level on 12 points heading into a crucial contest at the Motorpoint Arena which could go some way towards determining their fate in the race to reach The O2.

Both players are bidding to reach the play-offs for the first time, with Gurney having come up agonisingly short last season, while Suljovic suffered elimination on Judgement Night.

Gurney secured a 7-7 draw with James Wade last week with a 104 average, while Suljovic was beaten 8-5 by Gerwyn Price with an average of just 88, and 'Superchin' is confident he can come out on top.

"I'll get a result against Mensur," Gurney told Live Darts.

"If he pays the way he played [in Liverpool], he'll get nothing off me.

"Me saying that, he'll probably watch this back and be thinking he'll get something, but for me, I'm the better player.

"He was behind last week, came back, but took his foot off the gas and Gerwyn killed him for it.

"If I can get another result against Mensur and keep myself in the hunt for The O2, I'll be a very happy person."

Gurney bounced back from his disappointing defeat to Rob Cross on home soil in Belfast a week earlier in which he reveals he had been struggling with an elbow injury.

He added: "I've had problems with my elbow for some strange reason.

"It started two weeks ago and I literally couldn't practice.

"If you look at me throwing now, my points are probably going in the board more than halfway so I'm throwing with a bit more power, whereas in Belfast I was just lobbing them in and hoping for the best because I couldn't get the power."

Gurney was a 7-3 winner in the reverse fixture against Suljovic in Rotterdam last month, and a further triumph here would see him climb back into the top four with just four weeks of round-robin competition remaining.
