Daryl Gurney admits that his Champions League of Darts Group of Death looks a bit “hairy”.

The world number five lines up against Michael van Gerwen, Gary Anderson and Dave Chisnall needing to make the top two to progress to the knock-out phase in Brighton.

Gurney is making his debut on the seaside and says he is refreshed and ready for the ultra-tough battle.

"I'm excited to kick off against Gary, one of the best players in the world and reigning UK Open and Matchplay champion," Gurney told Live Darts.

"I always usually play well against Gary and it's a good game. It's a big tournament for me as my first time in the Champions League.

"Michael van Gerwen and Dave Chisnall are also in my group. It sounds a very hairy three opponents to face!

"Probably up against the best two players in the world, in my opinion, Gary and Michael. Dave's a good friend."

Gurney finished fifth in his debut Unibet Premier League campaign earlier this year, narrowly missing out on a place in the play-offs.

The Northern Irishman notably won the World Grand Prix last October and believes he is ready to hit form - and then look forward to his first holiday in three years.

He added: "I love the format as round robin. Hopefully I can just get out of the group and progress. That’s obviously the first target.

"I come into it OK form and fresh. We only really get August off so I've put in a good bit of practice to try and hit the ground running with the TV tournaments coming thick and fast now.

"I don't want to come back into the business end of the year slow at all. I’ve been trying to sharpen up in the European Tour events. It's just been an aim to get my form back to 100 per cent.

"I've just had my first proper break in two and a half years. It was lovely being with the family and my baby and looking after my cars.

"I've loved it to be honest but the batteries are re-charged, not having to worry about sitting in an airport for five or six hours every week.

"But that’s me flat-out now until January. I won’t get another weekend off until then. Believe me the next couple of months will fly past and maybe I’ll get my first proper holiday in three years!"
