With the 25-day feast of World Championship action having drawn to a close, we've crunched the numbers to see how the two tournaments compared.

The PDC's 16-day show-piece at Alexandra Palace saw a newly-expanded field of 96 players, including two female qualifiers, compete for a record £2.5 million in prize money.

A familiar face came out on top as world number one Michael van Gerwen captured his third William Hill World Championship title with victory over first-time finalist Michael Smith on New Year's Day.

Meanwhile, the 34th staging of the BDO World Championship at Lakeside produced a similar outcome as Glen Durrant helped himself to a third consecutive BDO world title, becoming the first player to achieve that feat since Eric Bristow in 1986.

Durrant claimed the £100,000 top prize courtesy of a 7-3 victory over Scott Waites in the final in what could prove to be both finalists' last outings as BDO players.

While a greater number of first-time qualifiers in the PDC World Championship inevitably led to a higher amount of sub-90 averages in the early rounds, the PDC tournament produced higher figures across the board, but only by close margins in a number of areas.

Here is a selection of overall statistics from the respective men's competitions...
