Defending champion Glen Durrant and a resurgent Scott Waites will battle it out for the right to become a three-time BDO World Champion at Lakeside on Sunday.

Durrant has continued his incredible dominance on the Lakeside stage, stretching his unbeaten run to 14 games with a tournament average of 96.

A winner of six BDO titles in 2018, 'Duzza' is eyeing a fairy-tale farewell in what is likely to be his final Lakeside campaign as he prepares to launch his PDC career at Qualifying School next week.

Victory on Sunday evening would enter him into the history books as one of only seven players to have won three or more world titles and would see him become the first player since Eric Bristow in 1986 to win three consecutive BDO world titles.

The Middlesbrough ace began his charge with a routine straight sets victory over New Zealand's Mark McGrath before withstanding a Scott Baker comeback from 3-0 down to 3-3 to edge through in a decider.

He then saw off Kyle McKinstry 5-2 with a 98 average before reeling off three straight sets to close out a high quality 6-3 win over his close friend Jim Williams in Saturday's Semi-Final.

Waites, meanwhile, is bidding to add to his triumphs at Frimley Green in 2013 and 2016 and has kept up the pattern of preserving his best form of the season for the BDO's blue riband event.

The Yorkshireman's tournament appearances have been few and far between this season but he has underlined his calibre with a series of strong showings en route to a third final.

The number nine seed opened up with a 3-1 win over Belgium's Jeffrey van Egdom before overcoming Richard Veenstra 4-1 and Conan Whitehead 5-3 with a 95 average.

Waites' averaged dropped ten points in the Semi-Finals, but it was still enough to guide him to a 6-1 rout of a below-par Michael Unterbuchner.

The 41-year-old will be eyeing a marked improvement on Saturday's display when he meets 'Duzza' for the third time in his last four visits to Lakeside.

Waites edged a classic Quarter-Final 5-4 in 2016 before Durrant exacted his revenge 12 months ago with a commanding 6-2 triumph.

The final gets underway from 5.30pm GMT and will be contested over the best of 13 sets. All sets are the best of five legs.

A tie-break is in operation where the final set must be won by two clear legs. If the score reaches five-all, the 11th leg will be a sudden-death leg.
