Glen Durrant and Scott Waites will face off in the 2019 BDO World Championship final after commanding wins over Jim Williams and Michael Unterbuchner respectively at Lakeside on Saturday.

A three-time World Champion will be guaranteed as back-to-back Lakeside king Durrant and 2013 and 2016 winner Waites face off.

Durrant came through a high quality contest against his close friend Williams, reeling off three consecutive sets to deny the Welshman in a match which featured 25 180s.

Middlesbrough's Durrant is now just one win away from becoming the first player since Eric Bristow in 1986 to win three BDO world titles in a row and admitted: "I'm mega happy right now.

"Jim was so good and I tried to remain calm for 95 per cent of that game then I think it was a big 115 finish after Jim had missed darts for 4-4.

"It was such a high intensity game.

"I'm in the final now and I've got to focus on going forward."

It was Williams who stormed to the first set without reply, producing finishes of 62 and 120 before missing one set dart at double 12 in the deciding leg of the second and allowing Durrant to take out 110 for parity.

Williams replied with checkouts of 116 and 68 in set three, but it was 'Duzza' who held firm in another decider to hit the front.

More missed darts at doubles proved costly for Williams in set four as he squandered two at double ten in the decider and the defending champion punished again to go two clear.

Williams, however, hit back with a 105 checkout to clinch set five before taking out 80 in the deciding leg of the sixth set to get back on level terms.

Durrant claimed the seventh set after the interval, and after Williams had missed a chance to clinch the eighth in a decider, Durrant underlined his class with a timely 115 checkout to make it 5-3.

The Teessider then established a 2-0 lead in set nine before missing three match darts to allow Williams to stay alive, but any revival proved short-lived as Durrant closed out the match in style with a sensational 123 checkout.

Durrant will meet Waites in a repeat of last year's Semi-Final after the Yorkshireman thrashed an out of sorts Unterbuchner 6-1 in the afternoon session.

Waites stormed to the opening five sets without reply before the German, who also reached the Semi-Finals 12 months ago, averted the whitewash by winning set six.

Waites, however, resumed normal service and quickly secured the seventh set to confirm a resounding victory despite an average of just 85.

"It wasn't a great game of darts, to be honest, but at the end of the day I managed to hit a winning double at the end of each set," said Waites.

"I just wanted him to kick in so I could start playing as well.

"I'll prepare myself a little bit differently for the final and I'll improve.

"The atmosphere is going to be electric, the final is going to be amazing and I can't wait for it," he added.

The afternoon session also witnessed a moment of history as Japan's Mikuru Suzuki became the first Asian player to win a World Darts Championship title and the first qualifier to win the women's event.

Suzuki thrashed number one seed Lorraine Winstanley 3-0 in the final with a 90 average and a high checkout of 148.

The 36-year-old dropped just two legs and went the entire tournament without losing a set, and admitted: "I knew that coming in that Lorraine was a fantastic player so I just wanted to play my best game and try to win it.

"It was really fantastic to have my husband here to watch me.

"For this tournament it was my best darts and for possible the past year. Baby Shark has helped me with the fans with my walk-on!"
